KIMBERLING CITY – Wanda Howard, age 89, has found a way she can serve the Lord in spite of being homebound. It all started when her life support class was asked if they would like to decorate sacks to contain food for the homeless in Branson. The class met and glued pictures of animals, birds, etc., along with Scripture verses on the sacks. The class lost interest, but Wanda decided that was something she could do by herself. Wanda is a member of FBC in Kimberling City and has neighbors … [Read more...]
Gettys issue call to rediscover impact of congregational singing
NASHVILLE – Keith and Kristyn Getty are calling on the church around the world to rediscover the power of congregational singing. The couple, who have written hymns sung by an estimated 40-50 million people in church services each year, echo Reformer Martin Luther’s challenge to view congregational singing not simply as an innovation, but rather a return to the Bible and the biblical practices followed well by the prophets and the ancient Church fathers. At the time of the Reformation, … [Read more...]
The cost of ingratitude
In Romans 1:18-22 the apostle Paul traces the downward course of human departure from God, beginning from ingratitude to Him in verse 21, to the deepest moral depravity in the statements that follow. In verse 18 he says that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” – a warning we would do well to heed in these critical days. It all begins with ingratitude to God. Three times Paul says that … [Read more...]
Dabler leads sessions on conflict, health of ministers
RAYTOWN— Where two or more are gathered, there will be conflict. Though that’s not exactly the truth Jesus shared in Matthew 18:20, it doesn’t make the statement any less true. “Conflict is tearing apart the Bride of Christ,” said Judy Dabler, founder of Creative Conciliation, during one of her presentations on conflict and the personal and spiritual health of church leaders at the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting here. “Conflict happens when the righteous, sinful or fallen … [Read more...]
‘A conversation on the ways of God’
Christians are saved by Jesus to be like Jesus. The Christian life is the lifelong practice of becoming like Jesus, of saying the things Jesus would say, doing the things Jesus would do, and loving others the way that Jesus would love them. As we become more like God we bring glory to him. We also serve as witnesses of just how glorious he is. Of course, we aren’t always like Jesus. Sometimes our words don’t match what we say we believe. Sometimes we do the right things in the wrong way … [Read more...]

He said his first church was in Ft. Baker takes a look on the inside during annual convention sermon
RAYTOWN – Building off of a cryptic title, Kirk Baker, pastor of First Baptist, Camdenton, delivered the annual sermon to Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting, speaking on “Chicken, cheese and cereal.” The title was a playful take off of Velveeta, a “cheese product,” Wyngz, a chicken-based snack with no wing meat, and Froot Loops, the sweet cereal that yet contains zero fruit. His text was 1 John 3:11-16: “For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love … [Read more...]
We are true partners, Yeats tells MBC
RAYTOWN – Followers of Jesus are true partners in the Lord, John Yeats, Missouri Baptist Convention executive director, said during his address to messengers at the MBC annual meeting at Connection Point Church here, Oct. 23. “Missouri Baptists, we’re better together,” said Yeats. “That’s the gist of synergy: people can accomplish more together than separately.” Yeats noted that the apostle Paul, in his writings, uses the Greek word synergos – the root word for synergy – several times … [Read more...]
Grieving, praying for Sutherland Springs
SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas – Missouri and Southern Baptist leaders expressed broken hearts and prayerful pleas as they reacted to the news of a Nov. 5 shooting that killed 26 and injured 20 at First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas. “Our words fail to express the sorrow we feel for this church family and their pastor,” said John Yeats, executive director of the Missouri Baptist Convention. “Their depth of grief is unimaginable. Temple Mount excavation yields new finds
(WNS) – Israeli archaeologists recently uncovered eight previously unearthed sections of the Temple Mount’s retaining wall in Jerusalem and part of a Roman-era theater in an area abutting the wall. Researchers estimate the theater is around 1,800 years old and believe the Roman Emperor Hadrian likely built it when he rebuilt the city of Jerusalem as a Roman colony. It remains unclear why work on the theater appeared to stop abruptly. Joe Uziel, the archaeologist heading the dig, … [Read more...]
Churches advance the glory of God in Italy
ITALY – Italy may seem like an unusual country for missions, but according to Rick Hedger, Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) Multiplying Churches Catalyst, Northeast Italy is a great area for mission partnerships. “Missouri Baptists were contacted by the International Mission Board (IMB) to consider mission partnerships in Italy,” Hedger said. “It is considered an unreached area. Only four out of 100 have a relationship with Christ which is extremely low for any place. Many have an … [Read more...]
