RALEIGH, N.C. (LifeSiteNews) – In the wake of a federal court decision legalizing same-sex “marriage” in North Carolina, at least six magistrates in the state have resigned rather than be forced to officiate such unions. These magistrates included four Southern Baptists, as well as one Missionary Baptist and one Wesleyan. All stepped down, since October 10, because they believe marriage is a union between one man and one woman. They are: John Kallam Jr. (Rockingham County), Gilbert … [Read more...]

Missouri county clerks refuse to issue same-sex ‘marriage’ licenses
A Missouri judge has ruled a state law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples unconstitutional, but most county clerks are refusing to fall in line. In a ruling Wednesday, Judge Rex Burlison ordered Missouri to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, saying that to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman is a violation of homosexuals’ constitutional rights. "Any same-sex couple that satisfies all the requirements for marriage under Missouri law, other than … [Read more...]
Missouri marriage definition ruled unconstitutional
A St. Louis Circuit Court Judge ruled Nov. 5 that Missouri's definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman is unconstitutional. "The Court finds and declares that any same sex couple that satisfies all the requirements for marriage under Missouri Law, other than being of different sexes, is legally entitled to a marriage license," wrote Judge Rex Burlison. Meanwhile, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has appealed the ruling to the Missouri Supreme Court, but did not … [Read more...]
Five things to remember about Baptists and the gay issue
Every morning, the Wall Street Journal arrives at my office. I read it to capture a relatively balanced view of cultural trends and financial markets in the U.S. and the world. Needless to say, I was shocked that the Journal ran articles about Southern Baptists and Apple Corporation’s Tim Cook on the same page. Interestingly, Cook’s “coming out” announcement was actually verification of old news. Running a story about Southern Baptists above the fold was a shock. The headline read, … [Read more...]
Houston Mayor Withdraws Subpoenas of Pastors
HOUSTON (BP) –The subpoenas will be withdrawn, Houston Mayor Annise Parker announced today (Oct. 29). The word "subpoenas" grabbed national attention after it became known that five Houston ministers were being subpoenaed for sermons and other private correspondence regarding their opposition to the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. "I don't want to have a national debate about freedom of religion," Parker said in a news conference, according to the Houston Chronicle, "when my whole … [Read more...]
Shocking poll: More Americans oppose same-sex ‘marriage’
A shocking new poll shows that more Americans oppose gay “marriage” than support it. A poll released earlier this month shows that 47 percent of Americans "oppose legalizing same-sex marriage,” while only 44 percent supported redefining marriage. Nine percent of the public was uncertain. FOX News, which conducted the poll, focused its reporting on reactions by the American public to President Obama's handling of Ebola and ISIS. However, buried in the poll was the same-sex “marriage” … [Read more...]
Congress must act, end judicial tyranny
Federal judges have invalidated the will of millions of Americans who voted to amend their state constitutions to define marriage as a union of a man and a woman. I am shocked at the lack of outrage no matter where you stand on the issue. These judges have robbed citizens of the sacred right of voting and upset the balance of powers between the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government. These federal judges are not elected and are given lifetime appointments, often by … [Read more...]
Council brings controversial gay ordinance to Springfield
SPRINGFIELD – The latest front in the fight to force Christians to accept homosexuality without question or conscience is the Springfield city council. There the city council voted 6 to 3, Oct. 13, to approve an “equal rights” ordinance that extends nondiscrimination protection in housing, employment and public accommodations to include sexual orientation and gender identity. It goes into effect immediately. Council members Doug Burlison, Mike Carroll, Craig Hosmer, Jan Fisk, Cindy … [Read more...]
Gov’t to ministers: marry gays or go to jail
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys filed a federal lawsuit and a motion for a temporary restraining order Oct. 17 to stop officials in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from forcing two ordained Christian ministers to perform wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples. City officials told Donald Knapp that he and his wife Evelyn, both ordained ministers who run Hitching Post Wedding Chapel, are required to perform such ceremonies or face months in jail and/or thousands of dollars … [Read more...]
Sen. Cruz: Caesar has no jurisdiction over pulpit
Liberty Institute President Kelly Shackelford and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joined together to speak out against the recent subpoenas targeting Houston area pastors. In response to these pastors being asked to turn over their sermons, Ted Cruz made his position clear: "Caesar has no jurisdiction over the pulpit, and when you subpoena one pastor, you subpoena every pastor.” Share this video and article to show your support for the Houston pastors! … [Read more...]
Reaction: Houston sermon subpoenas
WASHINGTON (BP) – The city of Houston has "no business" in issuing subpoenas for the sermons of pastors who oppose a new homosexual-transgender rights ordinance, says Southern Baptist Convention's lead ethicist Russell D. Moore. Opposition to the ordinance is based in part on concerns it will violate the religious freedom of business owners and others who disagree with the measure. Also, foes think it will make women and children vulnerable to sexual predators by permitting people to use … [Read more...]
