Pro-life efforts target abortion tourism
(WNS) – Pro-life abortion restrictions taking hold across the country are having unintended consequences in a few states with less regulation: women traveling across state lines to kill their babies. Half of the abortions performed in Kansas, more than a third of those in North Dakota, and almost a quarter in Tennessee are considered “out of state,” according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. A Kansas City woman fired from a Catholic food pantry in May sued the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocese and Bishop Robert Finn, claiming her supervisors knew that she was a lesbian when hired. However, an April article in The Kansas City Star’s 816 magazine mentioned Colleen Simon’s “marriage” to another woman and she says she was fired a month later. Missouri does not recognize her “marriage.” The diocese hoped the suit could be resolved, but stated its right to “live and operate according … [Read more...]
SBC’s homosexuality position reinforced by 1992 amendment
NASHVILLE (BP) – When a retired Air Force general’s concern over homosexuality prompted an amendment to the Southern Baptist Convention’s constitution two decades ago, few observers realized that his impulse to defend biblical morality would prove instrumental in helping the convention resist pressure to legitimize same-sex relationships for years to come. “Homosexuality was being promoted and was making progress ... and we wanted to protect the Southern Baptist Convention from [a] … [Read more...]
