Poll: state shouldn’t define marriage
NASHVILLE – About half of Americans are ready for separation of church and state when it comes to weddings. Six in 10 say the government should not define or regulate marriage. And more than a third of Americans—and about a quarter of Protestant pastors—say clergy should get out of the civil marriage business. Those are among the findings of two new studies from Nashville-based LifeWay Research. Ed Stetzer, executive director of LifeWay Research, said Americans disagree about the … [Read more...]
Conservative Christians showed up on election day
WASHINGTON (Christian Newswire) – Conservative religious voters made up as big a percentage of the electorate as ever, backing Republicans at least as strongly as ever in the midterm election according to exit polls released following Nov. 4’s voting. White evangelicals were 26 percent of the electorate this year, 78 percent voting Republican, up from 2010, when they were 25 percent of the electorate and 77 percent voted Republican, and 2006, when they were 24 percent of the electorate and … [Read more...]
Obama’s actions unwise, counterproductive according to Russell Moore
WASHINGTON (BP) – President Obama’s new executive actions to change immigration policy imperil the growing, widespread agreement on reform, said the Southern Baptist Convention’s lead ethicist. Obama announced in prime time Thursday (Nov. 20) his orders, which include most controversially a plan to protect an estimated five million undocumented immigrants from deportation. The president’s actions came after years of his own contentions that he did not have the legal authority to make or … [Read more...]
Six NC judges quit over same-sex ‘marriage’
RALEIGH, N.C. (LifeSiteNews) – In the wake of a federal court decision legalizing same-sex “marriage” in North Carolina, at least six magistrates in the state have resigned rather than be forced to officiate such unions. These magistrates included four Southern Baptists, as well as one Missionary Baptist and one Wesleyan. All stepped down, since October 10, because they believe marriage is a union between one man and one woman. They are: John Kallam Jr. (Rockingham County), Gilbert … [Read more...]
Housing allowance decision overturned, dismissed
DALLAS — The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned a lower court’s ruling that the minister’s housing allowance was unconstitutional. In the decision by the Chicago-based appeals court, it determined that the plaintiffs lacked standing to file the suit. The appeals court vacated the trial court’s judgment and remanded with instructions to dismiss the case. The plaintiff’s only recourse would be to seek review by the U.S. Supreme Court. The appeal was in response to a December … [Read more...]

‘I Stand Sunday’ draws 6,000-plus in Houston
HOUSTON (BP) – As pastors embroiled in a lawsuit against the city of Houston rallied thousands Sunday for the cause of religious liberty and with chants of "Let the people vote," their cohorts in the battle also were crying out for the church to repent for its retreat from the public square and its role as the public conscience. Part revival meeting, part civics lesson, the "I Stand Sunday" rally Nov. 2 in Houston drew more than 6,000 people to Grace Community Church, led by one of five … [Read more...]
‘Bonkers’: Experts reply to Obama
PROVO, Utah – President Barack Obama has insisted that there is a constitutional “right” to same-sex “marriage” in an interview with The New Yorker. “Ultimately, I think the Equal Protection Clause does guarantee same-sex marriage in all 50 states,” Obama told the magazine. But two constitutional scholars with the Ruth Institute Circle of Experts strongly disagree with the president’s assessment of the courts – and his assertion that the Constitution protects homosexual “marriage.” Bill … [Read more...]

HOUSTON (BP) –The subpoenas will be withdrawn, Houston Mayor Annise Parker announced today (Oct. 29). Jimmy Carter’s comments are compromising, convoluted
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Former President Jimmy Carter, in a recent speech here, made two important points – one of which was ridiculous and the other quite correct, but not rightly applied. In the first case, Mr. Carter affirmed gay civil rights and same-sex marriage by saying Jesus Christ never discriminated against anyone. As a Sunday School teacher for most of his adult life, it seems Mr. Carter would know a little more about Jesus than that. Jesus had clear moral standards which he … [Read more...]
