Directors of missions gather for retreat at Windermere
ROACH – The Windermere conference center was the setting for the semi-annual retreat of Missouri directors of missions (DOM). The Sept. 22-23 meeting saw about 50 DOMs attend. Many remarked it was the first time they had been at the center in over 20 years. Mo. DR chainsaw recovery teams bring relief after Iowa windstorm
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A massive windstorm, also known as a “derecho,” swept across central and eastern Iowa, Aug. 10, causing massive destruction in Cedar Rapids. A derecho is a “straight wind” weather incident, in this case with 100-140 MPH winds recorded. It flattened buildings and trees all across the city of Cedar Rapids, population 133,562. MBC Historical Commission awards scholarship
CRYSTAL CITY – Madyson House, a member of Faith Baptist Church in Festus, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Missouri Baptist University (MBU) by the Missouri Baptist Historical Commission. She received the award after writing a research paper on a topic of Baptist history which was reviewed by the MBC Historical Commission. The award was made in May. LAWSON – Jerry Palmer said he was going to retire from his association director of missions position and back off from some of his activities with the Missouri Baptist disaster relief ministry. ‘We will rise from the ashes’- Leeton church building destroyed by fire, arson suspected
LEETON – The Harmony Baptist Church in rural Johnson County was destroyed by a fire on the evening of Sunday, July 5. The fire is of suspicious origin and fire officials from the offices of the Missouri State Fire Marshall and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are investigating the cause and have reason to believe it is the work of an arsonist. TROY – Brent Campbell was an insurance agent and a deacon in a Baptist church for much of his adult life. Gasconade Valley association organizes ‘Prayer Journey’ to bless churches
BLAND – The churches in Gasconade Valley Baptist Association receive prayers from their association leadership on a regular basis. Associations provide financial help to churches, individuals with needs during COVID-19 crisis
JEFFERSON CITY – In early March the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) allocated $120,000 to be distributed to Baptist associations to help with benevolent and ministry needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Associations received varying amounts based on their size. MBC Executive Director John Yeats encouraged directors of missions to use the funds to assist churches with benevolence.
