KAHOKA – Amber Satterwhite was doing well as a teenager, despite being – as her parents said – a“brittle diabetic.” “She was editor of her yearbook, a straight A student. She had managed her diabetes since age 5 and gave herself shots. She was having a very successful life as a teenager,” her father Ron Satterwhite said. Ron is the Mt. Salem/Wyaconda Southern Baptist Association Director of Missons. “She had 200 kids at her 14th birthday party, played percussion and cello, and won some … [Read more...]
MBC’s Bennett calls Missouri Baptists to renew evangelistic fervor in 2021
JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri Baptists should tear down barriers to evangelism by focusing on Christ Jesus while steadily engaging in gospel conversations, the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Brad Bennett told The Pathway in a recent interview. According to a 2019 survey published by LifeWay Research, more than half of those who attend church at least monthly say they engaged in no evangelistic activity during a six month period. “Sharing the good news that Jesus paid for our sins through His … [Read more...]

Disaster survivor gives back to DR for helping
LEVASY – When Missouri River floodwaters entered Judy Oetting’s home in June 2019 she wasn’t sure what she would do. When the waters receded she and others started cleaning up the mess. Her basement was flooded as well as the first floor of her home. Mold was growing behind the walls. Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) volunteers came to her aid. They sent 5 college students who were serving as DR interns that summer. Mrs. Oetting said, “I wondered if we would ever be able to live … [Read more...]
Disaster Relief team supplies woman with winter firewood
EWING – One Disaster Relief team didn’t wait for a crisis to meet a need. Eight members of the Mt. Salem/Wyaconda Southern Baptist Association spent Saturday morning, Jan. 16, cutting a fallen tree, splitting logs, and removing them from a rural cow pasture to supply firewood for a needy woman. The eight represented four of the 19 churches of the association. The four represented churches were Ewing First Baptist, Dover First Baptist, Alexandria Baptist, and Mt. Olivet Baptist. “We were … [Read more...]
The witness of Paul to Christ’s deity
This is another in a series of excerpts from “What Every Christian Should Know About the Trinity,” available through Amazon and other booksellers. In the previous column, we explored the eyewitness testimony of John with respect to Jesus’ deity. Here, we briefly survey what Paul has to say about the matter. Although Paul likely had no personal encounters with Jesus prior to the crucifixion, he meets Jesus in dramatic fashion on the road to Damascus after Christ’s resurrection (Acts … [Read more...]
‘A library expands our reach’
RAYTOWN – Librarians are matchmakers. Debbie Atwood, media director at Spring Valley Baptist Church in Raytown, quoted S.R. Ranganthan’s Five Laws of Library Science, “Books are for use,” she said. “Every reader has a book, and every book has its reader.” “A library is only as valuable,” Atwood continued, “as the ability to find what’s in it.” Atwood has 17 years of library experience and when she became the volunteer librarian at Spring Valley, she could see that it would take a lot of … [Read more...]
Football player advances Kingdom
MARSHALL – When Texas born-and-raised Cedric Davis arrived at Missouri Valley College here on a football scholarship in the fall of 2019, he didn’t know a soul. He just knew he was supposed to be in Missouri. A year-and-a-half later, the answer to why is clear, and it has little to do with football or his degree. Davis didn’t grow up going to church but became a Christian his junior year of high school while singing “No Longer a Slave to Fear” at a winter youth retreat. “I burst out in … [Read more...]
Conway pastor balances ministry, Air Force duties
CONWAY – Everyone has heard of bi-vociational pastors, but James Beall aimed higher. He’s not just Pastor James of Crossing Over Southern Baptist Church here, or just a worker at the Tracker boat factory in Lebanon – he’s now tri-vocational, with his newest title being Airman First Class James Beall of the United States Air Force Reserves. “There’s one way to sum it all up,” Beall said. “Very busy.” In many ways, Beall was the typical bi-vocational pastor (if there is such a … [Read more...]
The road not traveled
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) It seems that many are truly frightened to enter 2021. Some believe that 2020 was so bad that they dread going into a new year not knowing whether the coronavirus will still be a big problem. Recently, it was reported that Bible sales are up throughout the country as people seem to be searching for answers. As we read our Bibles, we learn of many times throughout history when there were plagues, wars, … [Read more...]
Twenty-one saved through Springfield church’s young adult, collegiate ministry
SPRINGFIELD – Like many youths growing up in church, Jared Bone’s understanding of his personal role in discipleship and evangelism ended at the doors to the church building. “I brought a friend to church, so my job is done,” he says of his mentality as a youth. That all changed during college. Today, Bone, the young adult and outreach pastor at High Street Baptist in Springfield, is passionate about helping other young adults recognize that inviting friends to church is just one small … [Read more...]
John’s witness to Christ’s deity
This is another in a series of excerpts from “What Every Christian Should Know About the Trinity,” available through Amazon and other booksellers. Previously, we saw that Jesus claims to be God. Further, He proves His deity through divine acts that only Yahweh can perform. But is there corroborating testimony? What do those who know Jesus best – the disciples who walk with Him – have to say about the issue? The pages of the New Testament ooze with the deity of Christ – and most of the … [Read more...]
