LIBERTY – It was a Saturday morning, and some of the people from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church were a little scared. Knocking on the front doors of homes in the area was taking them out of their comfort zones. That morning they went outside the walls of their church to several neighborhoods in the Kansas City Northland region to attempt to engage residents in a front doorstep conversation about God’s activity in their lives. The initiative, called “Multiply-Groundwork” is intended to … [Read more...]

Missouri Attorney General Koster’s Planned Parenthood report ‘incomplete’
ST. LOUIS (St. Louis Review) – Several critics are calling a new report on Planned Parenthood in St. Louis “incomplete,” adding that it raises questions about how Missouri law holds the abortion provider accountable for its handling of human remains from abortions. Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced in a report Sept. 28 that Planned Parenthood in St. Louis is complying with Missouri law in how it disposes of human tissue from abortions. As part of the review, Koster’s office … [Read more...]

RAYTOWN – Missouri Baptists cried out to God for the salvation of people across Kansas City during a TenTwo prayer conference hosted by First Baptist Church here, Oct. 2. The event, collaborating with the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) national TenTwo initiative, was based on Christ’s statement in Luke 10:2: “And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” During the … [Read more...]

Cooperative Program: Of course that is not all!
Churches that give through the Cooperative Program are making a difference. Why do I know that? I have the unique opportunity to see the handiwork of God though so many areas touched by your church’s support of the Cooperative Program. Just this last weekend I attended the Minister’s Juggling Act, a ministry of the MBC funded by the Cooperative Program. This year, 92 ministry couples of various ages and demographics participated in the event that is designed to strengthen the marriage … [Read more...]
Bullseye! One-armed man hits the mark in archery, witness
GREEN CITY – Carroll Walker hunted and fished like many Missouri men. He took up archery in order to extend the hunting season and spend more time outdoors. Then a tragic farming accident handed him a disability that threatened his way of life – if he didn’t find a way to overcome it. Walker, 65, has become a competitive archer and a good one at that. In fact he rarely misses his target. All this with only one arm. In 1978 Walker was operating a grain auger on his north Missouri farm. … [Read more...]
Acts 1:8 drives local, global missions at South Haven
SPRINGFIELD – Just before his ascension, Jesus charged his disciples to minister in the immediate area, the far edges of the earth, and everywhere in between. South Haven Baptist in Springfield has taken the charge to heart. “One of the things we adopted a few years ago was an Acts 1:8 strategy. My heart and the heart of the church is to take the gospel where the gospel isn’t. That’s really our main focus,” said pastor Ryan Palmer. For South Haven’s ‘Jerusalem,’ member Kathy Meyer said … [Read more...]

Nik Ripken to lead ‘Crucible’ conference
SPRINGFIELD – Nik Ripken is returning to Missouri in October to lead a three-day conference called “Servants in the Crucible.” The IMB missionary and author of “The Insanity of God,” broke Missouri Baptist hearts for deep lostness while speaking at the 2014 state evangelism conference. “People don’t usually invite me back,” Ripken said in 2014. Now, he’s returning. “I’m not sure where Americans are going. But I think witness precedes church-planting movements. The primary place to worship … [Read more...]
