Great Commission Conference takeaways
A friend taught me years ago the great value of reviewing events. An evaluation has a way of helping you determine future choices. You may determine whether to share with others about the event and future similar events, or you may determine there were simply too many pitfalls for recommendation. Evaluation also helps you find where improvements can be made. Because we are all human, there is always room for improvement with everything. The only human thing I have ever found that doesn’t … [Read more...]
Stier: Believers must ‘dare to share’
SPRINGFIELD – There is no room for timidity when it comes to sharing the good news of Jesus. That was the message of Greg Stier, the founder of Dare 2 Share evangelism resources, during the Great Commission Conference at Ridgecrest Baptist Church here Feb. 25. Stier and his entire extended family are Christians today because someone shared the gospel with one of his uncles, quite literally on a dare. “I don’t come from a typical, religious, hymn-singing, pew-sitting family,” he said. “I … [Read more...]

Dowling and his associate, Ivan Frietas, were in the Putnam County High School to demonstrate strong man feats but their underlying purpose was to share their … [Read more...]
Book by HLGU’s Turner examines modern idols
HANNIBAL - There is little doubt that Western Culture is quick to follow after idols. Why are we so easily led astray? Eric Turner, assistant professor of New Testament and Greek at Hannibal-LaGrange University, suggests it is because postmodern thinking has masked idols so that we do not recognize them. Turner’s first book, “Hollow Gods: Idolatry in a Postmodern Context,” offers a glimpse into the connections between postmodern culture and its rapid decline into idolatry, providing the … [Read more...]

SBU physical therapy team serves in Haiti
CARREFOUR, Haiti – In an underserved nation like Haiti, if a person experiences any physical impairment, whether mild or life-altering, that person will likely live as though the residual pain and distress is his or her new lot in life. “Conveying the knowledge that there is hope, relief and rehab exercises to encourage healing is huge,” said Dr. Beverly McNeal, professor of physical therapy at Southwest Baptist University and coordinator for SBU’s Physical Therapy Global Health Outreach … [Read more...]
HLGU graduate composes praise
HANNIBAL – It all started with whistling. Thad Fiscella, a 2005 graduate from Hannibal LaGrange University here, can’t remember a time when he couldn’t whistle. His parents say it’s something he picked up at the age of two or three. “Through my early childhood, I can remember whistling tunes in my head all the time, and when people would ask me to whistle, I would just make something up, or improvise a song for them, I didn’t realize at the time I was in a way composing music,” remembers … [Read more...]
