100-year-old Halliburton defines abundant living
ST. LOUIS – Mary Halliburton is usually one of the first church members to arrive on a given Sunday. As she meets her pastor, John Childers, at the doors, she often has a book or magazine to give him. It’s not that the jokes in his sermon aren’t funny; it’s just that there are even funnier quips inside the pages of Reader’s Digest. “She volunteers at the thrift store where she can get books for 25 cents,” said Childers, pastor at South County Baptist Church here. “She’s given me … [Read more...]

HANNIBAL – Hannibal-LaGrange University’s Board of Trustees discussed upcoming accreditation visits and set the tuition rate for the upcoming school year during their spring meeting on campus March 15 and 16. One of the ongoing challenges private universities in Missouri face is that it’s difficult to compete with the free education many students can get at community college through the A+ Program. CHESTERFIELD – Being able to wrestle with intellectual issues and yet have the ability to aptly relate such issues to the common man is a rare and desirable trait. Both charming and charismatic, Metaxas bridges the gap between the intellectual and the simple. Seeking to help Americans contemplate the … [Read more...]

Protecting the unborn, voting, digging wells
Missouri has become one of the nation’s strongest defenders of the unborn, and that reputation will be enhanced if the General Assembly passes the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.” The bill will soon be debated in the House of Representatives. It will prevent abortions on preborn babies over 20 weeks gestation, when science and medical practice confirm that preborn babies can feel pain. We join Missouri Right to Life and other pro-life organizations in urging its passage. It would … [Read more...]

Whitehead filed the brief on behalf of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a public … [Read more...]
