Prayer conference highlights KC
RAYTOWN – Missouri Baptists cried out to God for the salvation of people across Kansas City during a TenTwo prayer conference hosted by First Baptist Church here, Oct. 2. The event, collaborating with the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) national TenTwo initiative, was based on Christ’s statement in Luke 10:2: “And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” During the … [Read more...]
Bullseye! One-armed man hits the mark in archery, witness
GREEN CITY – Carroll Walker hunted and fished like many Missouri men. He took up archery in order to extend the hunting season and spend more time outdoors. Then a tragic farming accident handed him a disability that threatened his way of life – if he didn’t find a way to overcome it. Walker, 65, has become a competitive archer and a good one at that. In fact he rarely misses his target. All this with only one arm. In 1978 Walker was operating a grain auger on his north Missouri farm. … [Read more...]
Acts 1:8 drives local, global missions at South Haven
SPRINGFIELD – Just before his ascension, Jesus charged his disciples to minister in the immediate area, the far edges of the earth, and everywhere in between. South Haven Baptist in Springfield has taken the charge to heart. “One of the things we adopted a few years ago was an Acts 1:8 strategy. My heart and the heart of the church is to take the gospel where the gospel isn’t. That’s really our main focus,” said pastor Ryan Palmer. For South Haven’s ‘Jerusalem,’ member Kathy Meyer said … [Read more...]

Bless the man of God – Pastor Appreciation Month
When I opened the outer door to the church office, I could see something had happened. To my left beyond the secretary’s desk, was the door to my study. Normally, I had it covered with funny cartoons. But this day was different. It was covered in cards, cash, scribbled notes and a sign in a large font that said, “Thank you for being our pastor.” I stumbled across a file the other day that still houses those thoughts of appreciation and kindness. When I looked at them afresh, a lump jumped … [Read more...]
