ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University’s application for exemption from Title IX has been questioned by the U.S. Department of Education because of the actions it took in 2001 to separate from the Missouri Baptist Convention. Religious schools and colleges may request an exemption from Title IX if they hold sincere religious convictions about sex or gender and if the school is owned and controlled by a church or religious denomination. In a January 4, 2016, letter from the Department’s … [Read more...]

Pastors’ Conference to spotlight evangelism
ST. LOUIS (BP) – Southern Baptist Pastors’ Conference president John Meador didn’t choose the “Live This!” theme of this year’s sessions in St. Louis. He said it was burned on his heart several years ago as God convinced him through study of 2 Timothy 4:5-6 that he had not been leading his church in evangelism and that he -- along with fellow pastors -- needed to heed Scripture’s call to “do the work of an evangelist.” Naturally, when he was elected Pastors’ Conference president, that … [Read more...]

What really is ‘sexual orientation’?
Political correctness just got weirder. A recent opinion piece in the Washington Post by Lauren Taylor describes the author’s struggle to raise her cats gender neutral. No, really. Read her explanation: “People are coming to understand that not all of us fit into the ‘girl’ box or the ‘boy’ box. Those who don’t are claiming space to be who they are. We all need to find ways to acknowledge and respect that. My way of respecting it just happens to be raising my cats gender neutral. You can … [Read more...]

We’re now organized and “professionalized”—including uniforms, state-of-the-art facilities, endless trips to the field, competitive coaches, equally competitive parents, and the after-season tournaments designed to give parents “bleacher bottom.” In addition, you’ve got to pay to play—and when you’ve paid that much, you’ll be sure to play. It is also fun, and it can be instructive. I love to watch my kids play sports. In … [Read more...]
