As attacks on our religious liberty have intensified in recent months, Missouri Baptist Convention Executive Director John Yeats asked me to spearhead a statewide multi-faith initiative that would further secure religious liberty for Missourians. For the past three months I have had the privilege of being a part of a broad coalition of church leaders, legal scholars, State Capitol staffers, lawmakers, pro-family and religious liberty groups in crafting legislation that would respect and … [Read more...]

JEFFERSON CITY — Jason Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is slated to keynote the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Legislative Prayer Service early next year. “It is important for Missouri government leaders to hear from one of our outstanding seminary presidents at this critical hour in our nation’s history,” said Don Hinkle, Pathway editor and organizer of the annual event. “All who attend will be blessed by a powerful and encouraging message from God’s Word by … [Read more...]
Religious liberty challenge facing Missouri Baptists, faith groups
JEFFERSON CITY – It is coming to Missouri and if its citizens do not act soon, religious liberty for everyone will likely face an unprecedented threat. Last month the Oregon Department of Labor ordered Melissa and Aaron Klein, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery, to pay a $135,000 fine because they refused to bake a “wedding” cake for two lesbians. It is not because they hate homosexuals. In fact they have repeatedly stated and demonstrated their love for homosexuals. The state is … [Read more...]

RAYTOWN – Missouri Baptists cried out to God for the salvation of people across Kansas City during a TenTwo prayer conference hosted by First Baptist Church here, Oct. 2. The event, collaborating with the North American Mission Board’s (NAMB) national TenTwo initiative, was based on Christ’s statement in Luke 10:2: “And he said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” During the … [Read more...]

Cooperative Program: Of course that is not all!
Churches that give through the Cooperative Program are making a difference. Why do I know that? I have the unique opportunity to see the handiwork of God though so many areas touched by your church’s support of the Cooperative Program. Just this last weekend I attended the Minister’s Juggling Act, a ministry of the MBC funded by the Cooperative Program. This year, 92 ministry couples of various ages and demographics participated in the event that is designed to strengthen the marriage … [Read more...]
Nik Ripken to lead ‘Crucible’ conference
SPRINGFIELD – Nik Ripken is returning to Missouri in October to lead a three-day conference called “Servants in the Crucible.” The IMB missionary and author of “The Insanity of God,” broke Missouri Baptist hearts for deep lostness while speaking at the 2014 state evangelism conference. “People don’t usually invite me back,” Ripken said in 2014. Now, he’s returning. “I’m not sure where Americans are going. But I think witness precedes church-planting movements. The primary place to worship … [Read more...]

Instead, he plans to nominate Josh Hall, pastor of Selmore Baptist Church in Ozark, to serve as second vice president. “I am a believer in the value of broad participation in … [Read more...]
Robert Shelton to preach ‘Christ is only the answer’ during convention sermon
PLATTSBURG – The Apostle Paul wrote his second letter to the church at Corinth amid an era of spiritual immaturity and an increasingly sinful culture. Robert Shelton believes Missouri Baptists would do well to consider Paul’s words as we look at our own society. The pastor of First Baptist Church, Plattsburg, Shelton will preach from 2 Corinthians 4 during the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting’s Convention Sermon, Oct. 27, at 11:35 a.m. He will expand upon the idea that Christians … [Read more...]
