JEFFERSON CITY – A chill is in the air, and that means carols, pageants and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. The nationwide goal is $175 million, the same as last year’s. 2012 was a down year in Missouri Baptists’ giving to Lottie Moon, falling short of the $3.75 … [Read more...]
Bible in the bird’s nest; support our missionaries
The Nov. 15 Wall Street Journal featured an op-ed from Melanie Kirkpatrick in which she tells about North Korean families fleeing that nation’s horrific violations of human rights and, specifically, religious rights. While the young dictator, Kim Jong Un, is intoxicated by his authority to wield the power of government over the millions in his country, there are those in his nation and in ours who believe there is a greater authority. Kirkpatrick tells the story of a believing family … [Read more...]
Missionaries see miracles, mercy amid typhoon
Caroline Anderson/Baptist Press TACLOBAN, Philippines (BP) – Suzie Miller sat on her mattress, floating on the second level of her flooding home, not knowing whether she and her husband would survive Typhoon Haiyan. The entire experience, Suzie said, was a testament to God’s provision and the power of … [Read more...]

‘Peace came over me’ on Korean hillside
NORTH FORK, Va. (BP) – St. Louis native, Chaplain Parker Thompson, can recall the moment – more than 60 years ago – he knew he was where God wanted him as an Army chaplain in the Korean War. With the war’s end in sight in the summer of 1953, fighting grew furious as the two sides hammered out an agreement over the transfer of prisoners of war. On the backside of a blood-soaked hill near some of the deadliest fighting of the war, Thompson waited for 10 to 20 troops – whoever could make … [Read more...]
God is moving, working in Missouri, let’s join Him
One essential part of an Annual Meeting is greeting the people we know and meeting new people who have joined us in our cooperative ministries. This year was no exception, as godly men and women gathered and fellowshipped. Sure, we had business to do, but this year it was obvious that we took away from the meeting a much deeper understanding of the ways of God. The meeting in Kansas City is now history. However, if you haven’t watched from the website the executive director’s address, … [Read more...]
