This is the second in a series of articles contrasting Allah and Yahweh: Muslims and Christians agree that God is one but understand oneness differently. The Islamic doctrine of tawhid, or absolute oneness, is more than strict monotheism. Tawhid celebrates Allah as singular, indivisible, and monolithic. Muslims insist that Allah has no “partners.” To say that Jesus is the Son of God, or that God exists as a Trinity, is to commit the unpardonable sin of shirk. But the Qur’an does not … [Read more...]
Tawhid and the Trinity
This is the first in a series of articles contrasting Allah and Yahweh. Muslims and Christians agree there is one God but disagree as to His name, nature, and attributes. The god of Islam is Allah, meaning “the god” in Arabic. In the days of Islam’s founder, Muhammad, this meant that of all the tribal gods worshiped on the Arabian Peninsula, Allah was the only true deity. Key to the Islamic concept of God is the doctrine of tawhid, or absolute oneness. It’s more than strict monotheism. … [Read more...]

Humans’ uniqueness confirmed by science
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (BP) – While the Bible teaches that God designed humans – and only humans – in His image, evolutionary scientists continue to try to explain the origin of humans' superior intellect when compared to primates. Researchers at Kent State University now think the answer might lie in differences in brain chemicals. For their study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers analyzed brain samples from humans, chimpanzees, gorillas, … [Read more...]
Nearly 100 years after ‘Scopes Monkey Trial,’ state lawmakers continue to challenge Darwinism
JEFFERSON CITY – On May 4, 1925, George Rappleyea, a metallurgical engineer in Dayton, Tenn., stumbled upon an advertisement in the Chattanooga Daily Times that, he thought, could bring renown and money to this struggling coal town. The advertisement, put out by the ACLU, challenged a Tennessee law that made it illegal “to teach” in public schools “any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower … [Read more...]
The ‘prince of preachers’ spars with Darwin
KANSAS CITY – Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892), the “prince of Baptist preachers,” died only a decade after Charles Darwin (1809-1882), who infamously proposed a way for explaining the origin of all species without any need for God. Though they lived in the same England at the same time, these men were poles apart in their views of creation and the origin of life on earth, according to Christian George, director of the Charles Spurgeon Center for Biblical Preaching at Midwestern Baptist … [Read more...]
Churches across the state benefit from Missouri Baptist Convention’s apologetics resources

In particular, Missouri Baptists have widely used apologetics tools by Rob Phillips, ministry support catalyst at the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC), who leads the MBC’s apologetics efforts. … [Read more...]
Ancient DNA said to support Bible’s Babel account
TANANA, Alaska (BP) -- Ancient human genetic material harvested in Alaska has been cited by two creation researchers as corroborating evidence of Scripture's claim humans migrated en masse from the Tower of Babel. A study published Jan. 3 in the journal Nature claims DNA extracted from the remains of an infant girl buried in central Alaska suggests an ancient migration of people from East Asia, across a frozen land bridge, North America. After scientists extracted the DNA, they dated … [Read more...]
Why is hell forever?
The doctrine of hell is disturbing. The very idea of suffering and separation beyond the grave elicits a wide range of responses, from anguish to anger. The possibility of departed loved ones languishing in outer darkness only adds to the grief of those laying flowers on their graves. Some atheists cite hell as a reason to deny the existence of a loving God. What’s more, Anglican cleric John Stott, who wrote the influential book Basic Christianity, found the idea of eternal suffering in … [Read more...]
Science of smell points to design: The olfactory system is more complex than previously thought
(WNS) - New research shows the sense of smell has even more complexity than previously thought. “Codes, information, efficient strategies—this is intelligent design territory,” Discovery Institute experts wrote of the findings on the organization’s blog. Researchers from Peking University in China built on what scientists already knew about the olfactory system. As molecules of odorants—substances that give off a smell—flow into the nasal cavity, they bump into receptor cells on tiny … [Read more...]
Is support of Israel waning among younger evangelicals?
NASHVILLE (BP) – Older American evangelicals love Israel, but many younger evangelicals simply don't care, according to a new survey from Nashville-based LifeWay Research. Three-quarters (77 percent) of evangelicals 65 and older say they support the existence, security and prosperity of Israel. That drops to 58 percent among younger evangelicals, those 18 to 34. Four in 10 younger evangelicals (41 percent) have no strong views about Israel. Fewer younger evangelicals (58 percent) have an … [Read more...]
Temple Mount excavation yields new finds
(WNS) – Israeli archaeologists recently uncovered eight previously unearthed sections of the Temple Mount’s retaining wall in Jerusalem and part of a Roman-era theater in an area abutting the wall. Researchers estimate the theater is around 1,800 years old and believe the Roman Emperor Hadrian likely built it when he rebuilt the city of Jerusalem as a Roman colony. It remains unclear why work on the theater appeared to stop abruptly. Joe Uziel, the archaeologist heading the dig, … [Read more...]
