WAYNESVILLE — Heavy rains and subsequent floods from the Gasconade and other rivers soaked much of central Missouri over the past week, leading to road closures and churches opening their doors to victims. Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Aug. 6, as Mark Twain National Forest and many roads, including main north-south artery Highway 63 were closed. More than a foot of rain fell over a few days in the Waynesville area, flooding more than 100 homes. The Red Cross opened a … [Read more...]

MMO seeds produce overflowing
Missouri Missions Offering Remember growing something from seeds as a science experiment in school? In most of those science experiments, as in most of our own planting of flowers or fruits, the seed pack has a picture of what is produced by the seeds we plant. The Bible promises us that the seeds we sow in faith for the kingdom of God will also produce a crop. We don’t always know what that kingdom crop will look like. The faithful men and women who are planting churches and doing … [Read more...]

John Yeats: Sometimes you just gotta strut your stuff
Every so often, I get wind of something very special. Something that cooperative Missouri Baptists do that just knocks your socks off (please excuse the colloquialism). The very day I wrote this column, I spent the morning with our state missionaries and the MBC support staff. I heard testimony after testimony of ministry with churches of every size and method. Some churches were engaging in VBS, Super Summer, youth camps, international mission trips, North American mission projects, new … [Read more...]

Dan Steinbeck/contributing writer BRANSON – Pastors and their families ministering to the large number of rural and smaller churches across the state were the focus of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC)-sponsored mb125 Conference held here June 18-20. Pastors got reduced registration costs, which covered the motel and most meals, free time with family, books, and door prizes. Why the effort? “That’s the majority of who we (MBC-affiliated churches) are. Some pastors benefit from … [Read more...]
News story about MBC grossly inaccurate
A story July 7 in EthicsDaily.com misrepresented numerous facts and maligned the motives of Missouri Baptist Convention leaders in the legal case involving Windermere Baptist Conference Center and the MBC. The story, written by Brian Kaylor, asserted that MBC leaders had offered and paid a secret settlement to one of the defendants in the Camden County case, and then concealed it. In truth, no MBC official has offered or paid any settlement in the Camden County case. In truth, no MBC … [Read more...]

JOPLIN – Baptismal waters have been stirring in Missouri. Though only 83.3 percent of churches submitted an ACP a report, it is the most accurate gauge of church activities available.
