INDEPENDENCE – The dream of having a Baptist Homes’ campus in the Kansas City metroplex has become a reality. Breaking from tradition, this campus was acquired and not built from the ground-up. The campus, formerly known as Truman Gardens and Independence Chateau, is located in the historic city of Independence and is located off a quiet street in a family-friendly community. While small, it has a charm all its own. One entire wing has been recently updated with new carpet, paint and … [Read more...]
Thirty five profess faith in Christ at state fair
SEDALIA – Russ Slocum needed to prepare some little colorful gospel bead bracelets to give to kids at the Missouri state fair Baptist tent exhibit. He enlisted the help of the youth group in his church at First Baptist, Otterville, where he is pastor. He is also the president of the Lamine Baptist Association and he is one of the organizers of the state fair Baptist tent ministry. So the teenagers gathered in the youth room to put beads on leather strips to make bracelets. But Slocum … [Read more...]
Lord, find us faithful
I prayed, “Lord, find us faithful stewards of the resources you entrust to our care.” Whether it is the assets of our family estate; or the above-the-tithe gift to a ministry the Lord is using; or encouraging our local church to tithe its offerings to the Cooperative Program; or leading our state convention toward maximizing our efficiencies and effectiveness for gospel transformation, I pray, “Lord, find us faithful stewards.” Is it possible that our gracious Lord would find us so … [Read more...]

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The worship pastor of Pisgah Baptist Church, Gabriel Zelaya, believes that a robust familiarity with theology and apologetics helps him bring a deeper experience of worship to his congregation. “As a worship pastor, I am able to utilize apologetics as I lead my congregation in worship,” Zelaya said. “We can sing theologically minded. Dispense with anti-trust flaws
The reason I was never Parent of the Year will shock some of you. It might even hurt your feelings a little. Because I’m pretty sure the biggest reason I never made the cut was that while my five kids were growing up, I never once made them eat liver. Not one time. Partly because I don’t know how to make it. Mostly though, it was because: sorry, but liver is gross. I didn’t make them eat liver because I was not willing to eat liver. Might as well admit that my kids were probably the only … [Read more...]

Pray for the Baptist Homes
The calling to serve Baptist Homes & Healthcare Ministries is a stewardship rather than a position. As a steward, one has the responsibility to ensure the proper resources are available, and the return is pleasing to the master. The root of the Latin word “resource” surgere, is the same as the word for source. Both mean to “arise.” As Christians, we do well to understand our needed resources arise from the Source. No wonder one of the names of God is “Jehovah-Jireh,” which is … [Read more...]
