HANNIBAL – Bob Caldwell, 61, loves what he sees in Super Summer, not only this year, but in the program as a whole. Caldwell, the director of the Super Summer at Hannibal-LaGrange University, June 19-23, has been involved with Super Summer activities since 1990. “Super Summer is a summer camp for junior high and high school students where we share the gospel with the lost, but train future leaders in how to share their faith. It is gospel-centric,” Caldwell said. In the first two … [Read more...]
The great guinea fowl massacre
The other morning, as the sun broke the horizon, Sharon came upstairs with tears in her eyes. One of our seven caged guinea fowl lay dead in its cage. By the way, the proper term for young guinea fowl is “keets.” I went out to check. Not one, but three were dead. I will spare you the forensic details of what happened to the guineas, but let me just say a racoon family is resting fat and happy. To spare the lives of the surviving members of the guinea tribe, we made some significant … [Read more...]

Amid crisis and conflict, Christ remains Lord of all
My 10-year-old son informed me last week that some nameless, Italian dental genius invented false teeth in 701 B.C., soon after the far away kingdom of Israel was crushed by Assyrian armies and just as those same armies besieged the kingdom of Judah’s capital city of Jerusalem. That’s the sort of fun fact you might expect to hear from a kid raised by two history nerds – that is, by me and my wife. It won’t surprise you, then, that my wife and I took the opportunity to indulge our nerdiness … [Read more...]
‘Keep Missouri pro-life’: Missouri Baptists testify to life’s sanctity one year after reversal of Roe v. Wade
JEFFERSON CITY – Twenty-five years ago, L.P. Cook and his wife, Amy, welcomed their twin sons into the world. But there was a problem. The twins came two-and-a-half months early. “Dangerously early,” L.P. Cook, pastor of Union Hill Baptist Church, Holts Summit, said. “In fact, our son Jeremiah – one of our twin boys – had a cerebral hemorrhage right at birth or just before that,” Cook said. Because of this and other complications, he added, Jeremiah “was left with profound … [Read more...]
Serve Tour, Crossover brings gospel hope, tangible help to the Big Easy
NEW ORLEANS (BP) – Southern Baptist seminary students walked the streets, presenting the hope of the Gospel. Churches hosted block parties for their neighbors. New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) held an appreciation event for local law enforcement. These events barely scratch the surface of all that took place during the Serve Tour + Crossover outreach events for New Orleans and the surrounding areas. In an interview, New Orleans Police Chief Michelle Woodfork said the … [Read more...]

MODR rebuild efforts open doors for spiritual impact in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptists have an opportunity to reach St. Louis residents with the gospel through Missouri Disaster Relief’s (MODR) efforts to rebuild homes damaged last year by flooding. Though MODR has already coordinated rebuild efforts at 14 homes, more than 100 homes still need work, according to MODR Director Gaylon Moss. While the immediate response to a disaster garners more media attention, Moss said that long-term recovery efforts – including rebuild efforts – can often … [Read more...]

Parkville churches join hands to reach community
PARKVILLE – Church walls don’t mean much when it comes to partnering together for the gospel. The four churches participating were Fellowship Kansas City; Fellowship of Grace, Park Hill Baptist Church and River Park Baptist Church. “At the beginning of the year, us four pastors got together and had a conversation,” said Tyler … [Read more...]
