AUGUSTA, Ga. – As Leslie Montgomery finished college, her dad asked if she was ready to go to Africa as a missionary. He had heard her speak of that desire often growing up. Her reply was one of frustration. “No, I was ready for that nine years ago. Not anymore,” she said. She’d felt the call of God to missions at 12 years old. Yet, it seemed God wasn’t opening those doors for her life. In her view, there were too many “messy years in the middle,” she says. She had given up on her dreams … [Read more...]

Aftab’s journey reveals plight for many persecuted Christians
SBC Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church set for Nov. 6 Nights are the hardest. Really, anytime he’s alone in the apartment is hard. He’d much rather be with people or be busy at work. Time alone reminds him of his family – his wife, daughter and two sons. He hasn’t seen them in person in nine years. He blinks back tears when he talks about them. When Aftab fled his home country, he thought he’d only be gone for a few weeks, possibly months. He can hardly imagine that it’s been this … [Read more...]

KANSAS CITY – The Northeast is known as a rough part of town. Its buildings are run down, the streets are narrow and full of potholes, and crime is common. It’s home to many different ethnic groups and many more languages. It’s the kind of place that might be especially hard for Missouri Baptists to reach, but there’s 22 church leaders in one room who are working to change that. They’re sitting around a square made of folding tables in the foyer of Central Baptist Church. Each pastor has … [Read more...]
