Freshwater takes ‘family mission trip’ to Montana
BILLINGS, Mont. – For Freshwater Church in Jefferson City, mission trips are a family affair. The congregation took 32 people – representing families with ages ranging from 4 to 65 – on a mission trip to partner with three churches in Montana. From June 23 to July 1, the Missouri Baptists worked alongside believers from Big Sky Country to serve the community and point people to Jesus. They broke into two teams, one serving in Billings in center of the state, and another serving in … [Read more...]

Independence church becomes smaller, leaner, more effective
INDEPENDENCE (BP) – Ten years ago Brian Grout accepted a call to be the pastor for what would soon become The Church at Three Trails. Approximately 200 people were on the membership role. That number has dropped by half since then. On the surface it can appear to be a negative, but the surface hardly tells the whole story. When Grout arrived, the church hadn’t baptized anyone in at least five years, but there have been approximately 55 since. Attendance hovered at 15 to start. Now it is … [Read more...]

Equality Act hurts women, children, people of faith
While I typically address issues occurring within our own state of Missouri, I think it necessary to address an issue that, though happening in Washington DC, is of great impact to all Missourians. On June 21, Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) introduced HR15, better known as the “Equality Act”. There are 214 co-sponsors of the Equality Act, all of them Democrats, and among them are Rep. Cori Bush and Rep. Emanual Cleaver, both from Missouri. While the Equality Act has a nice sounding name, it … [Read more...]
Spiritually thirsty college students drink deeply of Jesus, profess faith in baptism
KANSAS CITY – “What are you thirsty for?” That’s the question that confronted Malachi Taylor on the side of the Collegiate Impact Proxe station as he walked across campus at Blue River Community College in the spring of 2022. At the time, he didn’t know what he was thirsty for. But he was thirsty. Just a semester before, Owen Hannen had heard about the Collegiate Impact Bible studies on his campus at Longview Community College. He wasn’t connected with church in any way. But he knew … [Read more...]

MODR responds to derecho storm in northern Missouri
BETHANY – Until a few years ago, most people had never heard of a derecho (deh-REY-cho), even though the term dates back to 1877 when it was first used to describe an unusual wind event in Iowa. If wind damage wasn’t caused by a tornado or a hurricane, it has generally been blamed on a strong, straight-line wind. In fact, the word “derecho” is Spanish for “straight.” Today, the term, which has been used more frequently in the last 10 to 20 years, is, by definition, a wind damage swath that … [Read more...]
