ZAMBIA – The news was good. So exciting, in fact, that it was hard to keep it a secret. The chief officer of the Zambian women’s prison, a local believer, pulled the visiting International Mission Board missionaries into his office. He looked around conspiratorially, burst into a huge smile and said four women who attend their weekly Bible study would soon be released. They’d received a presidential pardon. Then he swore them to secrecy. While Jane Thompson and Kimberley Windham promised … [Read more...]

This is worth the investment
Some days, when you’re monitoring your dollars and cents – you know, that stuff Jesus our Lord commands us to manage while here on earth – you have to ask the questions: Is this a worthy investment for the kingdom? Do my finances show that I am laying up treasures on earth or in heaven? The stuff on earth we can hold in our hands, smell with our noses, or see with our eyes. The treasures in heaven are measured more by the investment we make in people for gospel purposes. The earthly stuff … [Read more...]

BETHANY – Until a few years ago, most people had never heard of a derecho (deh-REY-cho), even though the term dates back to 1877 when it was first used to describe an unusual wind event in Iowa. If wind damage wasn’t caused by a tornado or a hurricane, it has generally been blamed on a strong, straight-line wind. In fact, the word “derecho” is Spanish for “straight.” Today, the term, which has been used more frequently in the last 10 to 20 years, is, by definition, a wind damage swath that … [Read more...]
