by Chris Doyle/IMB UKRAINE (IMB) – People aren’t lining up to be missionaries in Ukraine right now, as Lamar Schubert has discovered. He and his wife Aubrey work with Slavic people and Eastern European churches, but they had to evacuate Ukraine when war began in February 2022. As cluster leader of International Mission Board missionaries, Schubert helped missionaries transfer to other areas where they could still serve Slavic people, but Schubert’s passion for the war-torn country … [Read more...]
Christian forgives would-be killer, leads her to Christ
IMB missionaries testify to power of prayer by Emily Hall When Ruth visited Fran in summer 2023, Ruth didn’t expect to end up in the hospital, fighting for her life. International Mission Board missionaries Wade and Catherine Hampton have seen God work in Southeast Asia, but they don’t always see Him work through an attempted murder. This story is one they shared with Southern Baptists, asking for prayer. Ruth met Fran at a park earlier that year, and despite Fran’s initial … [Read more...]

Local Christians and missionary partners help IMB missionaries fulfill Great Commission
by Chris Doyle SOUTH ASIA (IMB) – Joshua Rivers has a humorous way of describing the goal of the missionary task. “We want to work ourselves out of a job,” he said. Rivers and his wife, Gracie, are International Mission Board missionaries who work among South Asian peoples. With a massive population, this area of the world can be challenging to reach. How can this couple take on this enormous mission? Along with other IMB missionaries, the work involves South Asian believers and … [Read more...]
Missouri Baptist volunteer missions team sees God working in Brazil
by Chris Doyle/IMB BRASILIA, Brazil (IMB) – Brandon Winkler felt a little uncomfortable, he said, when he was asked to lead worship on a Sunday morning in Brasilia, Brazil. He wasn’t uncomfortable in his guitar playing. He had played these songs before. The challenge for him was the setting. He stood on stage in a chapel of a rehab facility. The room was simple with white walls, white tile floor and wooden pews set up in two sections. The technology was in good shape with a quality … [Read more...]

by Chris Doyle/IMB He stood in front of a group of children sharing a Bible lesson during Holiday Club. His other duties with the church included discipling students in small groups and playing guitar with the worship team. Ibrahimov and other … [Read more...]

By Ruth Bowles, IMB missionary kid EDITOR'S NOTE: Download the February PrayerPoints featuring daily prayer requests for missionary kids around the world. Each month will focus on a different theme or one of IMB’s eight affinity groups. Alcoholism has its claws wrapped tightly around the souls of the small town I grew up in, here in the Amazon region of South America. There are very few people whose lives go untouched by the darkness and destruction it brings. Mario, too, was … [Read more...]

by Chris Doyle/IMB NORTH AFRICA/MIDDLE EAST (IMB) – Children often take over a family business their parents started. This isn’t uncommon. For a son or daughter to relieve their parents in international ministry, though, can be a rare occurrence. International Mission Board missionaries Bill and Phyllis were involved in rural ministry for 16 years but are now retiring. God made it possible for their son, Daniel, to take over the work, in 2023. Bill and Phyllis served Northern … [Read more...]
