From France to Mizzou: Church planter brings missionary mindset to campus ministry
EDITOR'S NOTE: This article was corrected at 2:45 p.m., April 10, to read that The Bridge Collegiate Ministry at the University of Missouri was started by Missouri Baptist campus missionary Scott Westfall. COLUMBIA – For a mission field as ripe as a college campus, it makes sense to send a missionary. That’s exactly why former missionary and current Missouri Baptist church-planter Colby Corsaut aims to reach college students in Columbia. Corsaut comes to mid-Missouri by way of 10 years … [Read more...]
First-Person: I’ve named Rob Phillips MBC Associate Executive Director
In 20-plus years of ministry, I’ve certainly learned the importance, as well as the blessing, of serving alongside a talented staff. I’ve heard it said that a difficult situation can immediately be improved by the right person, and a great situation can immediately be damaged by the wrong person. If you’ve been in leadership any length of time, you know from experience this is true. Surrounding yourself with the right people is essential. With this foundation in mind, I’m excited to … [Read more...]

God is all Goodness, the Giver of all good things
Only one week before his death in July 1555, English Protestant John Bradford wrote from prison to his mother. “I die not, my good mother, as a thief, a murderer, an adulterer,” he wrote, “but I die as a witness of Christ, His gospel and verity.” Though he would soon become a martyr for his faith, Bradford trusted in God’s goodness. Writing to comfort men and women who likewise faced suffering and death, he described the Christian life as a voyage on a stormy sea. Buffeted and beaten by … [Read more...]
First-person: ‘I am opposed to abortion’
“We Did it! We won!" Such exclamations are often used by individuals who had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome. Identifying with a cause in that non-committal, generic sense is often done to show solidarity. They didn’t plan it. They didn’t contribute resources. They gave nothing of their own time or effort. The only way they can rightly shift from third person (they) to first person (we) is by identifying with the cause of others. Each year the Missouri Baptist Convention passes … [Read more...]

JEFFERSON CITY – With more than 80 percent of churches plateaued or declining, every minister will find themselves in a church revitalization scenario at some point in their ministry. But training opportunities offered this summer by the Missouri Baptist Convention’s Resound Network can equip church leaders to face this scenario. The Resound Network is offering a “Revitalize and Replant Cohort” that, according to the network’s website, “provides the opportunity for equipping and … [Read more...]
Decline to Sign Missouri’s Abortion Petition
JEFFERSON CITY – Missourians are being urged by both Missouri Baptist leaders, pro-life advocates and state officials to remain vigilant in protecting the life of the unborn, since Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups are working hard to bring a culture of death back to the state. Through the initiative petition process, pro-abortion groups aim to enshrine abortion in Missouri’s Constitution. Several Baptists who serve among Missouri elected officials have spoken out, … [Read more...]

The rider on a white horse
This is another in a series of excerpts from "What Every Christian Should Know About the Return of Jesus," released by High Street Press and available at Amazon.com. Read about the new audio version of the book here. There is general agreement among Bible commentators that the rider on a white horse in Revelation 19:11-16 is Jesus. The majority view is that John sees the return of Christ, in which he judges the earth and sets things right. The white horse is a sign of Jesus coming in … [Read more...]
