by Tessa Sanchez/IMB DERNA, Libya (IMB) – Two stories worth of water wiped out land with Christian history and tradition dating back millennia on Sept. 11. Rain from Storm Daniel overwhelmed the dams in Derna, Libya, and the deluge claimed entire neighborhoods and the lives of thousands. “In recent days, the world has witnessed unspeakable tragedies,” IMB President Paul Chitwood said. “The death toll from the Morocco earthquake is nearing 3,000. The churches of Lake of the Ozarks Baptist Association saw all these things first hand, Sept. 13, as more than 1,700 people gathered in the Eldon High School gym to see a motorcycle stunt show and hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Missionary kids spread gospel seeds in the Netherlands
THE NETHERLANDS (IMB) – Music and laughter waft up the path long before the teenagers on reddish-orange rental bicycles make an appearance. The long, single file line of Americans meander through the Netherlands countryside while locals zip past on their own bikes. When the team comes to a traditional Dutch windmill that serves as a rest stop, they dismount, feeling a little stiff and saddle-sore from the two-hour ride. The discomfort isn’t enough, however, to keep the horseplay and teasing … [Read more...]

Prayers prepare the way home from Zambian prison
ZAMBIA – The news was good. So exciting, in fact, that it was hard to keep it a secret. The chief officer of the Zambian women’s prison, a local believer, pulled the visiting International Mission Board missionaries into his office. He looked around conspiratorially, burst into a huge smile and said four women who attend their weekly Bible study would soon be released. They’d received a presidential pardon. Then he swore them to secrecy. While Jane Thompson and Kimberley Windham promised … [Read more...]
This is worth the investment
Some days, when you’re monitoring your dollars and cents – you know, that stuff Jesus our Lord commands us to manage while here on earth – you have to ask the questions: Is this a worthy investment for the kingdom? Do my finances show that I am laying up treasures on earth or in heaven? The stuff on earth we can hold in our hands, smell with our noses, or see with our eyes. The treasures in heaven are measured more by the investment we make in people for gospel purposes. The earthly stuff … [Read more...]
