JEFFERSON CITY – “I don’t think I can live a gay life anymore.” Every June, our culture celebrates Pride Month, an entire month dedicated to affirming sin. As our culture propagates LGBTQ stories, Christians should be encouraged that God is still in the business of graciously bringing people out of darkness and into his glorious light. Kayla Walsh grew up in St. Louis in a Southern Baptist church. She had a typical church experience – she attended her church’s Vacation Bible School, went … [Read more...]
Supreme Court sends Idaho abortion case back to Circuit Court
WASHINGTON (BP) – In a 5-4 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) sent the case of Idaho and Moyle v. U.S. back to the Ninth Circuit Court in a ruling released, June 27. The case involves a conflict between state law and the Biden Administration’s use of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). “At the heart of the case is the wild assertion by the Biden Administration that abortion is healthcare. Instead of dismantling that argument and protecting lives, the Court … [Read more...]
Why should the issue of abortion matter to Missouri Baptists?
There’s a great deal of conversation about abortion. As you are likely aware, in June of 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the federally recognized “right” to abortion. Now, each state determines to what extent, if any, to allow abortion. In Missouri, if the 380,000-plus signatures for the recent initiative petition are verified, we will vote on whether or not to add abortion “rights” to our state constitution. Does this really matter? Is abortion a … [Read more...]
How should Christians respond to Pride month?
I should have seen the wave coming. Like a yearly tsunami, I naively opened social media on June 1 and was hit with a wave of rainbows. Living through June forces the inevitable—our society overwhelmingly celebrates sin. Pride Month is a yearly challenge of how Christians ought to respond to LGBTQ issues. We can’t ignore it; it’s blatantly all around us. We can’t give in to despair; God calls us to always be filled with hope. And we can’t angrily treat people unkindly; we’re called to be … [Read more...]
Policy from X (formerly Twitter) allows XXX content as platform struggles for users
SAN FRANCISCO (BP) – Consensual adult content including nudity and sex is now OK on X, formalizing an unstated practice allowed when the social media platform was called Twitter. Pornographic images and acts may be shared whether they depict actual humans, cartoons, anime or hentai – a sexualized form of anime – or are photographic or generated by artificial intelligence, X said in announcing the policy in May. “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create … [Read more...]
MBC President: ‘This is the church’s moment to stand’
Politics ... It seems like a dirty word to many. The mere mention of it bothers others. And I get that irritation. We as Missouri Baptists are a gospel people, Jesus above all. And this is the right position. However, that fact has lulled some into the false notion that being about Jesus and the gospel puts them outside the realm of politics. But that can’t be true. The good news announcement touches every aspect of our lives. Complete discipleship demands our faith infiltrates our civic … [Read more...]
Missouri Governor signs House Bill 2634, defunding Planned Parenthood
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, on May 9, signed a bill into law that defunds Planned Parenthood – more than this, a bill that prevents state funds from subsidizing the work of any abortion providers. According to House Bill 2634, it is “unlawful for any public funds to be expended to any abortion facility, or to any affiliate of such abortion facility.” “Our administration has been the strongest pro-life administration in Missouri history,” Gov. Parson said, according to a May 9th press … [Read more...]

May is national foster care awareness month
May is foster care awareness month. Do you know much about foster care? Are there opportunities for your church to serve right here in Missouri? Children’s Division reports indicate 12,143 children are in Missouri state custody. When comparing other states with similar populations, Missouri has nearly double the number of children in state custody. There is a shortage of foster homes, and a need to reduce the number of children in foster care by focusing on prevention. No organization is … [Read more...]
Ministry of MBCH Foster Family Care brings hope to young woman
BRIDGETON – It was a cold day in February when Rae picked up Anna from the psychiatric hospital, but Anna shook her head no when Rae offered her a jacket. With short sleeves that showed off all the scars on her arms, Anna was a little too open, too exposed as she slouched into the passenger seat and twisted the cap off the water bottle Rae handed her. It was a long drive to the MBCH residential facility where Rae, a Family Foster Care Specialist, was assigned to transport Anna. Small talk … [Read more...]
