ST. CHARLES – The luncheon speaker raised a key question: "Are we being wise stewards, considering the state of the world and the large group of resources we have?" The questioner reminded the lunch crowd that they were eating a fine meal, but that amount of food is more than many people in some parts of the world would have for several days. A sobering thought. The Partnership Missions luncheon is always one of the more popular convention related activities at the MBC annual meeting. … [Read more...]
‘Horse whisperer’ proclaims gospel during state fair
SEDALIA – Horse whisperer David Frazier doesn't really like the term "horse whisperer." "That's kind of Hollywood. I haven't even seen the movie," he said. He was referring to a 1998 film starring Robert Redford, who plays the role of a horse trainer with a remarkable gift for understanding horses and helps an injured teenager and her horse back to health following a tragic accident. "But we use the term here because people understand what it means, and it communicates to the … [Read more...]
‘The harvest is plentiful’
SEDALIA – People were seated in the big tent which sat between a corn dog stand and a barbecue restaurant wafting smoky pork flavors through the tent. State fair-goers were interested in signing up for a chest freezer and 200 pounds of beef, pork and chicken. And they did, but they were able to sign up after they listened to a three-minute Christian testimony of a tent volunteer. And at least 35 of them asked Jesus into their heart there in the tent. David Mifflin, state fair evangelism … [Read more...]

WASILLA, Alaska – The north Missouri mission team stepped out of the Anchorage, Alaska airport into much cooler weather and spectacular scenery as they prepared to ride in church vans 45 minutes north to the town of Wasilla. The group constructed a horse corral for the cowboy church to use to hold horse expos and they blazed some trails through some … [Read more...]
Mo. Baptist volunteers needed to share faith during state fair
SEDALIA – In the heat and humidity of an August afternoon, a tent with fans and cool shade is an inviting prospect by itself during the Missouri state fair. Coupled with an opportunity to sign up for a freezer and 100 pounds of beef, chicken and pork, it seems even more welcoming. Baptist volunteers offer to enter visitors in a drawing in exchange for three minutes of their time. The fair visitor (perhaps tentatively) comes into the tent and a friendly Missouri Baptist tells them how they … [Read more...]

Clinton church raises $2.5 million for missions
CLINTON – Two-and-a-half million dollars seems like a lot of money. Many Missouri Baptist churches will not handle that kind of cash in several decades or a hundred years. But a western Missouri county seat town church has generated that much or more for funding missions efforts in the last decade. After a mission celebration which highlighted the need of missionary efforts, the First Baptist Church of Clinton began sending out mission teams and doing missions in their local community. … [Read more...]
