Conference to highlight legacy of Reformation

FENTON – The First Baptist Church here will host the Southern Baptist Founders Midwest Conference, Feb. 28 – March 1, 2017, under the theme of “The Wittenberg Door.”

Keynote speakers for the conference include Michael Haykin, professor of church history and biblical spirituality at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; Pastor John Greever of First Baptist, Fenton; Curtis McClain, professor of Bible and director of Christian Studies at Missouri Baptist University; Pastor Josh Wilson of Park Hills Baptist Church; and Terry Coker, associate pastor of FBC Fenton.

Lecture and sermon titles include “Faithful Ministry in Dark Times and Places,” “Why Do We Need to Remember the Reformation?”, “Teaching Youth to Put Christ First in their Daily Lives,” “Thomas Cranmer and Solus Christus,” “When God Gives Them Over,” “William Tyndale and Sola Scriptura,” “Understanding Biblical Assurance in Pastoral Ministry,” and “Sealing the Reformation in Blood: The Witness of Jane Grey.”

The conference will include a bookstore for guests to browse, and lunch and dinner will be provided at the cost of $10 per person.

Registration for the conference is open, and the cost will remain at $50 until Dec. 31, 2016. From Jan. 1-Feb. 15, 2017, cost will be $55, and afterward it will go up to $60.

Protesting: How should churches respond?

The Evangelical world was shocked on Jan. 18, 2026, when a group of roughly 30 protestors invaded Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., during a worship service. While Christians aren’t surprised when unbelievers sin, we were shocked to see the sacred space of religious worship attacked so blatantly. This remarkable action should lead Christians and churches to think clearly about what the Bible says regarding protesting and how churches should biblically respond.
