MOBERLY – Eight ministers pooled together their youth budgets to bring a “Fearless Student Ministry Night” Oct. 26 that drew around 250 sixth through twelfth grade students.
Jason Kramer, associate pastor of Sturgeon Baptist here, one of the eight coordinating youth pastors, said extra chairs had to be set in the Moberly Municipal Auditorium for the concert, which featured Christian hip-hop artist DaMac and speaker Joshua Hedger, director of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s (MBTS) Center for Church Planting.
The event also involved presentations from the MBTS Fusion program, from Hannibal-LaGrange University and from Southwest Baptist University. Also, a free iPad was given away, and Kramer learned it went to a student who really needed the computer.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done this,” Kramer said. “It’s amazing how God worked out the details.”
Kramer said emails and flyers about the event drew interest from a secular newspaper about the concert. Several non-Baptist churches joined Missouri Baptists in promoting the event. Kramer said churches from all directions around Moberly brought youth to the concert.
“The next day, a church in Columbia told us they enjoyed coming and was so glad we put on a quality event,” Kramer said. “We’ve had great feedback.
“God led us to the right people, music-wise and speaker-wise. I’m in awe of everything. A lot of prayer went into it. There’s no way we could have done this as one church. We just didn’t have the finances.
“I want to encourage another association, that maybe they too could do something similar. We hope we are able to do it again next year.”
