Arizona High Court’s 1864 abortion ban ruling likely to face ballot issue
PHOENIX (BP) – The revival of an 1864 Arizona law criminalizing abortions for providers, expectant mothers and advertisers will likely face a November state ballot measure asking voters to enshrine abortion rights in Arizona’s constitution. The Arizona Supreme Court voted 4-2 April 9 to allow the enforcement of the laws originally cited as Arizona State Statutes 13-211, 13-212, and 13-213, but stayed their enforcement while the lower court considers certain constitutional challenges … [Read more...]
First-person: ‘I am opposed to abortion’
“We Did it! We won!" Such exclamations are often used by individuals who had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome. Identifying with a cause in that non-committal, generic sense is often done to show solidarity. They didn’t plan it. They didn’t contribute resources. They gave nothing of their own time or effort. The only way they can rightly shift from third person (they) to first person (we) is by identifying with the cause of others. Each year the Missouri Baptist Convention passes … [Read more...]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BP) – The Alabama Supreme Court ruled last week that frozen embryos are “children” for the purposes of a wrongful death lawsuit. The decision reverses two lower court rulings. Religious exemptions from Title VII rules vary in courts
SEATTLE (BP) – Christian companies have seen conflicting legal decisions about religious exemptions from Title VII LGBTQ rules after the U.S. Supreme Court said in 2020 that the statute prohibits bias based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Most recently, a Washington state district court said Nov. 28 that World Vision erred in rescinding an employment offer to an applicant after learning she was a lesbian in a same-sex marriage.
