Voter registration resources available

August 29, 2016 By The Pathway

JEFFERSON CITY – All the resources churches need to conduct a voter registration campaign are free and ready for ordering.

The Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) Christian Life Commission has partnered with Concerned Women for America of Missouri to offer the packets in preparation for the Nov. 8 general election. Deadline to register is Oct. 12.

“In addition to praying, we must cast our votes to fulfill our Christian responsibility toward government, one of three institutions – along with the family and the Church – God ordained,” said Don Hinkle, Pathway editor and public policy advisor for the MBC.

“We must exercise the opportunity for influence that God has given us through our unique system of self-government. If we fail to vote conscientiously for godly rule, evil will increase in our nation. Proverbs 29:16 says, ‘When the wicked are in authority, sin flourishes.’ Our nation will then bear the consequences of the leaders we choose. First Samuel 8:18 says, ‘When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you … .’

“If we choose not to vote, we forfeit our moral right to decry the ungodly actions of your elected leaders,” Hinkle added.

The free packets include:

• A pastor’s cover letter

• Church voter registration coordinator information sheet

• General voter information

• A legal briefing titled “Churches and Elections – What is the Law?” written by attorneys with the Liberty Institute

• 2016 election calendar

• Voter registration application forms

• Absentee voting information sheet

• Request for Missouri Absentee Ballot sheet

“By not voting, we help elect ungodly leaders,” Hinkle stressed. “We bear the blame, and our children and grandchildren will suffer for it. Always vote. And vote as wisely as possible so that your conscience is clear before God. Only then can you be part of the solution.”

To order a packet for your church call your director of missions or Bev Ehlen, State Director, Concerned Women for America at 314-608-0168 or email her at bevehlen@yahoo.com.

Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU), affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) since 1857, has formally requested a religious accommodation from the U.S. Department of Education from a Biden-era regulation, 34 CFR §668.14.
