Quilts raise funds for Children’s Home

July 12, 2016 By The Pathway

DENECE MITCHELL/The Licking News

LICKING – On Saturday, June 4, a group of ladies from the WMU Boone Creek Baptist Church traveled to First Baptist Church in Arnold for the 125th Strawberry Festival and Quilt Auction, which is held each year in June and raises funds to support the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home.

The ladies had previously submitted six quilts.  All quilts are judged and then auctioned off.  There were a total of 99 quilts from various Baptist churches throughout the state.  In our group Kay Ramsey’s Quilt placed 1st in the Embroidered/Machine Quilted (by Reggia Ward) category, Alberta Skiles’ quilt placed 2nd in the Embroidered/Machine Quilt category and Joan Well’s cross-stitched quilt placed 3rd in the Embroidered/Hand Quilted category.  Several of the six quilts were hand quilted by the WMU group.

The women of Boone Creek Baptist Church are very supportive of missions in their church and would be glad to have others join them.  They enjoy getting together monthly for Bible study and planning various mission activities. Recent projects include raising funds for the Texas County Baptist Association, donating to the home for abused women, creating a Christmas Shopping Cart for the Nursing Home, and of course, their quilt donations.  They also hosted a wonderful Mother, Daughter, Granddaughter, Sister, and Friend’s Tea at the church in May, which was attended by 55 ladies.
