Sunday school training event set for Sept. 12

August 10, 2015 By The Pathway

RAYTOWN – Sunday school directors throughout the state can find new ideas and motivation for growing and improving Sunday school programs at their churches during a training event at First Baptist Church, Raytown, Sept. 12.

The Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) small group/Sunday school ministry team has joined with Lifeway Christian Resources to host this National Sunday School Director Seminar. The seminar will run from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The seminar is designed for pastors, Sunday school directors and Sunday school teachers.

Thousands of pastors, Sunday school directors and other church leaders from across the nation have participated in past seminars, which have received some of the most positive feedback of any training event sponsored by LifeWay during the past 20 years.

During the seminar, in a very practical, interactive and hands-on way, participants will learn about:

  • Instilling a sense of purpose and mission in their Sunday school classes and small groups.
  • Blueprints (practical steps) for growing Sunday school classes and small groups.
  • Developing teaching that leads to life change.
  • Building a strategy (intentional plan) for your Sunday school classes and small groups.

Mark Donnell, MBC small group/Sunday school/discipleship specialist, and Wayne Poling, LifeWay’s lead Sunday school specialist, will lead different segments of the seminar. This is the third seminar held here in Missouri since Donnell joined the MBC, with the other two being held in St. Louis in 2009 and Branson in 2012. Both were very well attended, according to Donnell. Another seminar is scheduled to be held in St. Louis next March.

Small group/Sunday school leaders will walk away from the seminar with a library of helpful resources, including:

  • Sunday school training system CD – A comprehensive training system that includes 11 books, training plans, handouts, PowerPoint presentations and more.
  • Seminar notebook in both printed and electronic forms.
  • Electronic copy of all the seminar presentations.

Participants will get all of the above for $39.00 and lunch is provided for free.

To register, please go to www.lifeway.com/nssds, call 1.800.254.2022, or visit the MBC’s Sunday school website at www.mobaptist.org/sunday-school/regional. For more information, call Mark Donnell at 1.800.736.6227, ext. 331.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments Tuesday (Jan.13) in two cases regarding state laws seeking to clarify competition in sports according to biological sex. Both cases (West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox) involve biological males challenging state laws which barred them from competing on female sports teams.

Widow recounts God’s faithfulness following husband’s death during mission trip in Mexico

Richard Nations

While on a mission trip in San Felipe Usila in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, in September 2024, a member of First Baptist Church, Camdenton, Mike Luttrell, suffered a cardiac arrest and died while walking down a street in the village. His wife, Connie, was with him and she recently provided a narrative to The Pathway about the incident and how God was so faithful to her and the mission volunteers as they went through the traumatic incident and made arrangements to return to the United States.
