Eight Missourians nominated to fill SBC trustee seats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eight Missouri Baptists have been nominated to fill seats on trustee boards at seven Southern Baptist Convention entities.

The nominations were placed by Missouri’s two representatives on the Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Nominations, Jeff Purvis, pastor, Westport Community Church, Imperial, and Doug Austin, layperson and member of Lynnwood Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau. The nominations must still be approved by messengers to the SBC’s annual meeting in Nashville June 20-21.

Those nominated for a second term include:

Executive Committee – Bill Vail, pastor, First Baptist Church, Poplar Bluff.

Guidestone Financial Resources (formerly known as the Annuity Board) – Robert Benson, layperson, Bethel Baptist Church, Independence.

North American Mission Board – Paul Pope, pastor, Sonrise Baptist Church, Bonne Terre.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary – Jay Scribner, pastor, First Baptist Church, Branson; and James Freeman, layperson, Oakwood Baptist Church, Kansas City.

Those nominated for a first term include:

LifeWay Christian Resources – Cliff Day, pastor, First Baptist Church, Chaffee.

International Mission Board – James Barnhart, associate pastor, Miner Baptist Church, Sikeston.

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary – Joy Stephenson, layperson, Parkway Baptist Church, St. Louis.

Austin was appointed to the committee’s sub-committee that will complete the nomination process in the event of changes between now and the annual meeting. The sub-committee will also nominate members to the Committee on Order of Business.

Storms leave death and destruction across Missouri, Kentucky
