SPRINGFIELD – Greg Stier’s family is the last group of people one might expect to produce a passionate witness for Christ. They were “thugs,” in and out of jail, and so rough and tumble that even local mafia called his uncles, “the Crazy Brothers.” And yet one day, on a dare, a hillbilly preacher dressed up in a suit knocked on one of the Crazy Brothers’ doors. That dare not only led to the Crazy Brother’s salvation, it led to a spiritual revolution in the entire family, including Greg … [Read more...]
Harrison Baptist Association sees God at work
BETHANY – God has his ways for working in various circumstances within the Harrison Baptist Association’s area. For example, when a windstorm hit in June, Harrison Baptist Association Disaster Relief was able to respond “boots on the ground a half-hour after the storm,” said Director of Missions and Northwest Missouri Regional Disaster Relief coordinator John Mohler. In an odd twist of God’s work, one house damaged had a Hispanic resident, and there happened to be a Spanish-speaking … [Read more...]

‘This is really, really important’: 6-year-old issues missions offering challenge
Ethan Gee: "I’m trying to raise 1,000 and 100 dollars for missions...but, I only have $6." Like most boys at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 6-year-old Ethan Gee wanted to win the penny war against the girls. “Like really, really, really bad,” he agonized. “The girls always win.” He asked his mother, Sarah, if he could take some pennies from his shark-shaped bank for the contest. They emptied the coins on the table. As they pulled out pennies, they talked … [Read more...]

You can make a difference in state mission partnerships
Several years ago I was invited to join a small group of men to help lead the annual church planters retreat in Montana. I was apprehensive because our church did not have the resources to help fund the retreat in a significant way. Beyond that, I was not sure I had any particular wisdom or expertise to offer, since I was not a church planter. As I flew home after the first year much of my apprehension had disappeared. What I came to realize is that state-to-state partnerships have less to … [Read more...]
John’s testimony from Patmos
This is another in a series of excerpts from What Every Christian Should Know About the Return of Jesus, released by High Street Press and available at Amazon.com. In the visions John receives while exiled on the Isle of Patmos, he often records the words of Jesus foretelling his return. John may have recorded these visions as early as the A.D. 60s or as late as the A.D. 90s. In any case, Jesus assures his followers – and warns his opponents – that his return is certain. Here’s a … [Read more...]
