Hispanic Heritage Festival helps lead 12 to Christ

December 23, 2014 By The Pathway

SPRINGFIELD – Casa de Oracion (House of Prayer), a 12-year-old Hispanic church here, saw 12 people accept Christ when they opened their doors as part of the city’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration in September.

They hosted events with different Latin America dance groups, a mariachi band from Mexico and concert by Chilean Christian singer Roberto Orellana, and of course various foods. In addition to the dozen that accepted Christ, the church personally invited more than 200 people and saw 800 show up. The church also partnered with the Missouri Baptist Convention through a small amount of funding through the Missouri Missions Offering for the events.

Pastor Hazael Rodriguez said the church has been making use of Hispanic Heritage Month for the past ten years, but also in area Hispanic churches in Branson and Monett. All combined, they ministered to 2,400.

“There were a lot of people from the churches that worked behind the scenes and volunteered,” Rodriguez said.

Protesting: How should churches respond?

Jeremiah Greever

The Evangelical world was shocked on Jan. 18, 2026, when a group of roughly 30 protestors invaded Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., during a worship service. While Christians aren’t surprised when unbelievers sin, we were shocked to see the sacred space of religious worship attacked so blatantly. This remarkable action should lead Christians and churches to think clearly about what the Bible says regarding protesting and how churches should biblically respond.
