MBC committee seeks nominations
April 19,2005
FREDERICKTOWN – The committee nomination process, according to Tom Johnson, chairman of the Missouri Baptist Convention’s (MBC) Nominating Committee, is going along smoothly. There are fewer than 20 vacancies, Johnson said, and committee members are working hard to fill those openings with qualified Missouri Southern Baptists.
“We’re looking for new people,” said Johnson, pastor, First Baptist Church, Fredericktown. “We don’t want to keep working the same people through (the system). We’re looking to involve as many Missouri Southern Baptists as we can. We’re looking for people who can do the institutions some good. We’re looking for people who are with us as a convention – solid, Missouri Southern Baptist people.”
The form below can be clipped and used to submit names to Johnson.
Recommendations need to be postmarked by April 30, and mailed to Johnson at First Baptist Church, Fredericktown, P.O. Box 228, Fredericktown, Mo. 63645.
Johnson said the Nominating Committee is interested in people who have some type of gift or talent to bring to Missouri Southern Baptist life.
“We need those business talents, accounting talents, banking talents and doctor talents,” he said. “With the Baptist Home and the Children’s Home, we need some doctors. And we need pastors, too.”
Johnson hesitated to name specific openings on boards, stating simply that he needs nominations for every entity. He said that the picture will become a lot clearer after the Nominating Committee meets May 5 at the Baptist Building. A July meeting also will be helpful in that it will assist committee members as they put the finishing touches on their work, he said.
“I feel pretty good about the process,” he said.
