Three important dates for Missouri Baptists to mark
Spring is here and summer seems to be at the doorstep. As we journey together, there are some calendar markers I want our churches to be aware of: Cooperative Program Day, April 22 This is a great day to celebrate the vast array of ministries your church supports through its giving to the Cooperative Program (CP). Recently, one of our state missionaries was serving as interim pastor of an Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) church. He noted in the church’s financials that although the … [Read more...]

CHARLESTON—First Baptist Church here is a giving congregation. “This has always been a strong mission-giving church,” Michael Brewer, pastor, said. “But with the economy, it was a surprise when the congregation gave $11,314 for Lottie Moon this year because of their heart.” The significance of the large gift to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering comes with the realization that church attendance runs between 100-110 people with Sunday School attendance between 90-100. The stakes are high in the fight for Genesis
I am a local church planter and pastor who believes the Bible and understands science points to the absolute truth of God’s Word. Recently, I was invited to witness to a group of atheists at Creation Ministries of the Ozarks (CMOTO). CMOTO has a museum dedicated to defending the six literal, 24-hour days of creation found in Genesis. Every year my hometown of Springfield has the largest gathering of atheists in the Midwest. A previous year’s theme for their gathering was Unbuckling the … [Read more...]
CP helps further God’s work in the African nation of Malawi
MALAWI, Africa – In 1998, when International Mission Board Missionary Gary Robertson left the United States to serve the Tumbuku people of Malawi, Africa, he had a strong sense that he was representing Missouri Baptist churches. “Before I left I remember meeting with the WMU of the Gasconade Valley Baptist Association and realizing that they were the churches that were sending me,” said Robertson, a native of Linn. “None of them could send a missionary on their own but together they, and … [Read more...]
The lotion quotient; a God who satisfies
My husband is convinced that lotion is scented slime imported from the place of the dead. I have no doubt he would sooner wallow in lard than use one of my creams. As a matter of fact, he says he can’t understand how anyone can put that stuff on a clean body without feeling all dirty again. He even goes so far as to make one of those pained-looking faces after I’ve driven his car post-lotioning. He says it makes his steering wheel gooey. Picture him trying to drive using only a thumb and … [Read more...]
