Pathway gets new staff writer

By Staff

April 19, 2005

JEFFERSON CITY – The editor of The Bison, the Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) student newspaper, will join The Pathway as a staff writer beginning June 1.

Brian Koonce, 22, a native of Bartlesville, Okla., will graduate cum laude May 23 from OBU, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

“I believe God has called me to Christian journalism and I am very excited about coming to The Pathway,” said Koonce, who has interned for The El Reno (Okla.) Tribune and The Baptist Messenger, newsjournal of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. In addition, he has worked as a student writer for the OBU Public Relations Office and contributed articles to Anvil, the OBU alumni magazine.

He has also served as a summer missionary for the Washington-Osage Baptist Association, Bartlesville, and as a photographer for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

“The Southern Baptist Convention is in desperate need of a new generation of theologically conservative Christian journalists,” said Don Hinkle, Pathway editor. “God has blessed The Pathway in many ways, including sending some of the best and brightest its way. We are pleased God is sending Brian.”
