Gibbs, Pitman to speak at annual meeting
JEFFERSON CITY—David Gibbs III and Vance Pitman will be two of the leading speakers in the 173rd annual meeting of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC), set for Oct. 29-31 at Tan-Tar-A, Osage Beach.
Gibbs, a Tampa, Fla., attorney best known for his lead role in the fight to save the life of Terri Schiavo, will be the final speaker Oct. 31. He received his law degree from Duke University and is a frequent spokesman on major news and talk shows.
Pitman is senior pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Las Vegas, a 5-year-old church plant of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Ga., that has grown from around 150 attending worship to 1,200. He will speak on the afternoon of Oct. 30.
MBC President Mike Green, director of missions, Twin River Baptist Association, will give the president’s address Oct. 29. Preceding that message will be one by David Tolliver, MBC interim executive director.
Handling the theme interpretation/Bible study portions of the Convention will be Carlisle Driggers, recently retired executive director for the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Driggers chose to end his tenure in February after having served 15 years in his leadership role. He was succeeded by Jim Austin, a former MBC associate executive director.
The Pfeifer Family is on board for music Oct. 30-31. John Pfeifer, Candy Pfeifer, Mary Jane Carter and Robert Dixon will be on hand at Tan-Tar-A to provide their rich blend of singing that comes from a strong family heritage in music dating back to the 1930s.
Color of Mercy, a local duo from Camdenton, also will be part of the music lineup. Tiffany Miller and Ronda Brandt are members of First Baptist Church, Camdenton, who have helped lead worship in many settings around the Lake of the Ozarks and throughout Missouri. One of their time slots will be right before Rodney Albert, pastor, Hallsville Baptist Church, delivers the Convention sermon on Oct. 30.
Messengers are encouraged to call Tan-Tar-A at 800-826-8272 to make reservations. Mention that you are attending the MBC annual meeting and book a $89 flat rate for a room that can accommodate 1-4 people.
