Calling down the fire

September 27, 2016 By The Pathway

ST. CHARLES – The 2016 Missouri Baptist Pastor’s Conference will highlight the need for “calling down the fire” of God for powerful preaching and ministry. The conference is scheduled to take place at the St. Charles Convention Center here Oct. 24, preceding the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting.

According to Pastor’s Conference President Tom Bray, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Warrenton, pastors are responsible to study and exegete the word responsibly and to preach it creatively so that people will understand it. But this is not enough.

“Without the fire upon it, it will not change lives,” Bray said.

For this reason, the Pastor’s Conference features speakers who will aim at helping ministers call down God’s fire into their preaching and service. Speakers include:

• Southern Baptist Convention President Steve Gaines, who has served as senior pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn., since 2005.

• Herb Reavis, senior pastor at North Jacksonville Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla.

• Larry Wynn, vice president of revitalization for the Georgia Baptist Convention, who previously served as vice president of evangelism at the North American Mission Board.

• Roger Alford, a Missouri Baptist evangelist in the New Faith Ministry organization.

The conference will also feature the music ministry of “Evidence Sings” (evidencesings.com) a ladies singing group from St. Charles; Doug McKay, who serves as worship pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in Warrenton; and Nathan Payne, student pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in Warrenton.
