Evangelist, author warns of Islamic teachings at Concord terrorism confab

October 19, 2005 By The Pathway

August 7, 2002

JEFFERSON CITY — It is time for Southern Baptists to realize they are in a fight when it comes to Islam, said a veteran evangelist who has written a commentary analyzing the Qur’an.

Speaking at a one-day terrorism conference at Concord Baptist Church here, Moody Adams said it is not a matter of getting into — or staying out of — a war with the Islamic world.

"They’re raising-up a generation in Palestine that in 15 to 20 years will be an army of terrorists like the world has never seen," Adams said. "It’s simply a matter of whether we’re going to win or lose."

Adams, who recently returned from a trip to the Arab world, has published a copy of the Qur’an along with the evangelist’s commentary on verses in the Islamic holy book. The 71-year-old evangelist said the book has been published because he wants the world to know what the Qur’an says and what the Islamic faith is about.

Christians who have swallowed the idea that Islam is a peaceful religion, Adams said, are deceived.

"Their goal is world conquest," he explained. "They believe they are predestined to conquer the world. And they believe Allah approves of murder and lying if it advances their cause."

How should Christians get involved?

According to Adams, they should heed Scripture and "put on the whole armor of God." Also, Baptists should get back into the business of training youth on how to use "the sword of the Spirit, he said, referring to the Apostle Paul’s message in Ephesians 6:17.

It would also help if Baptists would educate themselves about the Islamic faith.

"Many Baptists believe Allah is the same God that we worship. But Muslims do not claim to worship our God," he said, adding that Allah was an idol god worshipped by Arabs long before there was an Islamic religion.

The real eye-opener, Adams said, is to learn what the Qur’an teaches about Muslims fighting and killing. Among the targets:

  • Anyone who does not believe in Allah.
  • Those who practice any religion other than Islam.
  • Those who do not submit to the religion of truth.
  • Christians and Jews who do not believe in Allah.

"Ever since Sept. 11, we’ve been trying to make some sense out of what happened," Adams said. "What really happened in New York that day was a wake-up call from Hell. Even President Bush says we’re at war.

"What we need to do is thank God that He has revealed the truth to us in the Bible about Jesus Christ and also show that we have a will and a willingness to fight for what we know to be true."
