April 26, 2018 By The Pathway

WASHINGTON (BP) – Unity across the nation and among churches spanning all denominations, generations, races and cultures is the overarching plea of the 2018 National Day of Prayer, scheduled for May 3. Mobilizing people across the nation in public prayer events May 3 – capped by a nationally televised and livestreamed prayer service at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) at the U.S. Capitol Building – is the day's goal, event president Ronnie Floyd said at nationaldayofprayer.org. IMB trustees name committee to search for new president

March 14, 2018 By Julie McGowan

RICHMOND, Va. (BP) – The International Mission Board began the search for a successor to David Platt to lead the SBC entity during their Feb. 28-March 1 meeting in the Richmond, Va., area. Platt, the mission board's president, reiterated his desire that the 173-year-old Southern Baptist entity stay on course for taking the Gospel to the world's darkest, hardest-to-reach places. To that end, IMB trustees approved the appointment of 20 new fulltime, fully funded missionaries. Trustee … [Read more...]

Japanese gang member finds Christ, ministry call

January 24, 2018 By Benjamin Hawkins

TROY – When he was 15 years old, Jonathan Hayashi had been arrested, tried, blacklisted, and put behind bars. He hated Christians, he hated his father, and he hated God. He never imagined how God was already working to bring him to faith and to send him, eventually, to minister in a Baptist church, more than 6,000 miles away in Missouri. In fact, God was at work long before this. Years earlier, when Hayashi’s mother studied English at a college in Japan, she met International Mission Board … [Read more...]

Reflections on putting your house in order

January 24, 2018 By John Yeats

Every trip I make with Sharon to Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, I am reminded how important it is for people to “put their house in order.” This trip in particular seemed to have some really sick people held in the grip of some form of cancer. While we are very grateful for Sharon’s good report, we are reminded how terminal we all are. I hear of too many people with some kind of medical anomaly and it breaks my heart, as I know it does yours. The bodies our Lord created for His … [Read more...]

January 10, 2018 By Richard Nations

HOUSTON – Turkey and all the fixings on the table at grandparents house in late November.  Nope.  For students in Baptist Student Union groups across Missouri and several other states, it was a trip in church vans to Houston, Texas, to begin the rebuilding process for homeowners who were hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.  Twenty BSU students from Southwest Baptist University, Missouri Southern State University, Missouri Western University, Missouri Science and Technology University and the … [Read more...]

Standing for the sanctity of life in the SBC

January 10, 2018 By John Yeats

Just a few days ago, I met with a media leader from the Kansas City area to discuss our goals for the organizations we lead. Part of our time together included a tour of the unique building that Missouri Baptists own as part of its missionary strategy. The building is just four blocks from the Missouri State Capitol, which makes it convenient for fulfilling one of the primary roles of a state convention, namely public policy engagement that protects the religious liberties of individuals … [Read more...]

In Jesus’ embrace: Family feels Christ’s comfort in their sorrow

October 25, 2017 By Brian Koonce

TRENTON  –  Sunday morning services at Coon Creek Baptist Church had just ended, and Mike Knapp wanted to get the cattle fed before the family gathered together for lunch. His teenaged son, Malachi, got into his truck and decided to lend a hand. “He was always worried about me and wouldn’t let me go anywhere without him checking up on me,” Mike said. A quarter-mile from the house, a white car came zooming down the hill, fast enough that Mike swerved his tractor off the road, thinking, … [Read more...]

These documents were formally received at last year’s annual meeting and, since then, have been open to review and comment to all Missouri Baptists. Amid Charlottesville turmoil, Baptists active in outreach

August 23, 2017 By Diana Chandler

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (BP) – As alternative-right white supremacists and others flooded Charlottesville, Va., to protest the removal of a Confederate statue, Southern Baptists were already actively promoting racial harmony in the small community where former mayor Alvin Edwards has pastored 36 years. Edwards, pastor of Mount Zion First African Baptist Church and a member of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), had already organized the multidenominational Charlottesville … [Read more...]

Protesting: How should churches respond?

Jeremiah Greever

The Evangelical world was shocked on Jan. 18, 2026, when a group of roughly 30 protestors invaded Cities Church in St. Paul, Minn., during a worship service. While Christians aren’t surprised when unbelievers sin, we were shocked to see the sacred space of religious worship attacked so blatantly. This remarkable action should lead Christians and churches to think clearly about what the Bible says regarding protesting and how churches should biblically respond.
