October 6, 2025 By Scott Barkley

NASHVILLE (BP) – The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved another generic abortion drug, to much protest from pro-life advocates. Produced by Evita Solutions, the drug named ANDA received approval on Sept. 30 as a generic to Mifeprex, which was approved in 2000. The drugs are designed to end pregnancies through ten weeks’ gestation, preventing the baby from being able to attach to the uterine wall while preparing the uterus for contractions that typically come about … [Read more...]

Sex-abuse survivors in Texas, Missouri protected from non-disclosure agreements

September 3, 2025 By Diana Chandler

AUSTIN, Texas (BP) – Texas and Missouri laws banning nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) in sexual abuse settlements took effect over the Labor Day weekend. The Texas law took effect Sept. 1, banning such clauses for sexual abuse survivors of all ages, following Missouri’s law that became effective Aug. 28 and is limited to minors. The laws also nullify previously signed NDAs, unless specifically upheld by a court. Such bans are now active in three states including Tennessee, where … [Read more...]

Not worth the gamble

August 13, 2025 By Wes Fowler

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, 52 percent of Missourians voted to reject Amendment 5. Interestingly, many may not even remember Amendment 5, most likely due to the attention Amendment 3 received (and rightly so!). Simply put, Amendment 5 would have amended the Missouri Constitution to allow for a casino at Lake of the Ozarks. Thankfully, we voted to reject the amendment! So, I suppose the issue is settled? I suppose we can move forward knowing that a new casino won’t be built? Well, not … [Read more...]

August 5, 2025 By Scott Barkley

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BP) – Forty Southern Baptist state executives, officers and public policy leaders have signed on to a letter encouraging President Trump’s “immediate action” in stopping the mail-order distribution of the abortifacient mifepristone. The letter, sent on July 28, points out that over 60 percent of U.S. abortions come about through the use of mifepristone, which can be mailed to those living in pro-life states. In 2017, 39 percent of abortions came from pills. That figure … [Read more...]

Churches, religious broadcasters prevail in lawsuit challenging Johnson Amendment

July 9, 2025 By Diana Chandler

WASHINGTON (BP) – Averaging just over 200 in Sunday worship, First Baptist Church draws a 10th of Waskom, Texas,—population 2,000—to its sanctuary when it praises the Lord each Sunday. But the small-town Southern Baptist Church carries a big stick, effectively challenging what it called an unequal application of the 71-year-old Johnson Amendment that prevented political comments from pulpits across the nation. The church was among four plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the Internal … [Read more...]

WASHINGTON (BP) – The United States Supreme Court ruled Friday (June 27) that parents of public-school children in Montgomery County, Md., have a right to opt their kids out of classroom reading times with books the school board labels as “LGBTQ inclusive.” These books were introduced as part of a new curriculum in 2022 that included more than 20 new inclusivity books for pre-K through eighth-grade students. They promote storylines that teach gender is more a construct than a biological … [Read more...]

Ten years after Obergefell: Can the U.S. reverse course on marriage?

June 27, 2025 By Diana Chandler

WASHINGTON (BP) — More than 425,000 same-sex couples had already wed in the U.S. when the Supreme Court approved such unions in the historic Obergefell v. Hodges decision June 26, 2015. Ten years later, the number of gay marriages has risen by at least 55 percent, reaching 774,553 in 2023, based on U.S. Census Bureau data as reported by Pew Research Center. The number of households headed by same-sex cohabiting couples has also risen over this period. It started at 433,539 in 2015 and … [Read more...]

WASHINGTON (BP) – The United States Supreme Court ruled Thursday (June 26) that South Carolina can continue its effort to defund Planned Parenthood by barring abortion clinics in the state from participating in Medicaid programs. The case, Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, involved South Carolina officials asking the justices whether a Medicaid beneficiary and Planned Parenthood have the right to sue on the matter. Eunice Medina, director of South Carolina’s Department of … [Read more...]

FIRST-PERSON: 10 years after Obergefell

June 26, 2025 By Miles Mullin

A decade ago, the United States crossed a threshold when the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage throughout the country in Obergefell v. Hodges. Looking back, it is clear that the Court’s decision effectively codified our cultural descent into a no-holds barred approach to sexuality, and, a bit later, gender. Grounded in what Carl Trueman terms “expressive individualism,” this mentality is divorced from biological realities, sociological data, common sense, and the clear testimony of … [Read more...]
