MBTS mission team trains local believers, shares gospel in Ecuador

A team from Midwestern Seminary spent 10 days in Manta, Ecuador, partnering with a local church to train believers in evangelism and proclaim the gospel throughout the surrounding community. Led by Joe Allen III, assistant professor of missions, the team traveled May 29–June 7 with Midwestern students Jason Reyna, Adam Collins, and Tasha Vipond, along with Tim Hutchins, a member of Fellowship of Grace Church in Parkville, Missouri.

Colorado fire opens hearts to the Gospel

The Aspen Acres fire increased in size by 2,000 acres on Sunday, July 5, bringing the total to more than 89,000 blackened acres affecting three Southern Baptist churches near the San Isabel National Forest southwest of Pueblo, in Beulah, Rye and Colorado City. Evacuations affected about 11,000 area residents – 3,800 homes – before Sunday’s additional evacuations were announced for Coal Creek, Williamsburg and Rockvale.

New demographics tool unveiled to ethnic leaders in Orlando

Victor Chayasirisobhon, director of missions for the Orange County (Calif.) Southern Baptist Association, expressed amazement at the wealth of information he was seeing at a meeting for ethnic leaders at the 2026 SBC Annual Meeting in Orlando. The meeting was designed to roll out a new web-based tool for leaders of ethnic church networks wanting to take a deep dive into area demographics.

Messengers approve 51 percent of national Cooperative Program dollars for IMB

Truth and Unity Amendment receives initial two-thirds approval

An amendment specifying the role of pastor and the act of preaching as limited to men, brought by Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler, received the first of two required two-thirds votes by messengers on June 10 to become part of the SBC Constitution. Among 8,074 votes cast, reported registration secretary Don Currence, 6,028 (76.66 percent) were in favor of the amendment. There were 2,026 (25.9 percent) votes against. Twenty votes were disallowed.
