KANSAS CITY– Whitehead Law Firm, LLC, in Kansas City, has appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a Missouri church pre-school and daycare center that was discriminated against by a state program that provides recycled tires to surface children’s playgrounds. Earlier this year, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit upheld a federal court’s decision that ruled the State of Missouri was justified in denying participation by the center because a church runs it. Trinity … [Read more...]
‘I’ll die with a witness on my lips’
LINCOLN – Excruciating pain overwhelmed her motionless body with every breath she took. Nineteen-year-old Linzie Green knew that each time she took a breath, it might be her last. “Do you know Jesus?” she asked one of the emergency medical technicians who arrived on the scene of the accident. Later while strapped to a gurney, she asked the same thing to a paramedic in the helicopter, “Do you know Jesus? He saved me.” “I honestly thought I was dying so every time I woke up and realized I … [Read more...]

SEDALIA – Josh and Sara Howell, Christian business owners here, are in the crosshairs of Missouri’s homosexual activist group, PROMO, for refusing to allow a same-sex couple to get married at their privately owned event venue, Heritage Ranch. Rachel Cathey and Beverly Vaughn, a same-sex couple planning to wed in 2016, visited Heritage Ranch earlier this year, but were informed by Sara Howell that the venue could not host same-sex weddings because of the owners’ Christian beliefs about … [Read more...]
SBC’s Page talks missions with First O’Fallon
O’FALLON – Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Frank Page said in a recent missions conference that problems in SBC mission efforts is due to churches placing priorities on activity rather than close relationships with Christ. Page made the comment at First O’Fallon on October 24 in concluding remarks to the church’s annual missions conference. He cautioned that churches should not be so busy with religious activities that they leave … [Read more...]
Croteau testifies to Christ through Apologetics Network
Two strangers from a local church knocked on Ed Croteau’s door about 25 years ago. As a Catholic, he had always heard Jesus described as the Son of God, but for the first time, they explained that Jesus was God. Croteau and his wife Jo were overcome by the presence of God and gave their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. “Since then, I cannot put the Bible down. I just love God’s Word,” said Croteau, who is a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit. An engineer by … [Read more...]
Is death coming for The Pathway?
Will Missouri Southern Baptists always have The Pathway, and if so, what will it look like? I have no idea. But God does. From the day it was born on June 8, 2002, The Pathway has always belonged to God through the churches of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC). People have tried to discredit it and even silence it. Not surprisingly, it is despised by liberals. As someone who has been in journalism for four decades, I can tell you such attempts are not unusual and are even expected … [Read more...]
An appendix to the MBC Annual Meeting
In this issue there are several stories about the MBC annual meeting. When Missouri Baptists convene, we are one of the largest annual meetings among the state conventions in partnership with the Southern Baptist Convention. This year we had 1,022 messengers from 440 churches and 236 registered guests. I’m grateful for every Missouri Baptist and guest who came to hear, see, and learn about the amazing cooperative ministries our churches do throughout our state, this nation and the world. … [Read more...]

Yeats urged Missouri Baptists to embrace a sense of urgency as they engage a culture desperately in need of the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. Starting two years ago, Yeats challenged the … [Read more...]
Franks urges Missouri Baptists to move forward
SPRINGFIELD – To promote forward thinking, Neil Franks looked back. Franks, pastor of First Baptist, Branson, gave the president’s address at this year’s Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting, using a cleverly-filmed video and a throwback to his high school days to drive home his point. The video showed a man walking forward on a street, while the world moved in reverse around him. But then Franks showed the video the way it was filmed: the man walked backwards; he, not the people … [Read more...]
Ripken: Persecuted Christians see miracle of everday U.S. churches
SPRINGFIELD – The International Mission Board’s Nik Ripken opened a window on the realities facing persecuted believers worldwide and on the way those believers view American Christianity during the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting, Oct. 28. “There is no free church and persecuted church,” Ripken said. “There is just the church. And it is always persecuted and it is always free. And when any part of your body is hurting and you’re not aware of it, and you’re not concerned about … [Read more...]
