SOUIX CITY, Iowa – David Miller, pastor of Southern Hills Baptist Church was elected the president of the SBC Pastor’s Conference, June 13. An unusual move, because of the relative small size of the Sioux City church, the vote signals a willingness to try some new directions with the traditional preaching conference that precedes the SBC Annual meeting. The Southern Hills church runs about 250 in attendance most Sundays. Miller was reached by The Pathway and released the following … [Read more...]

Abortion, trafficking, pro-life endorsements
June 27 was another sad day in America for women and the unborn. That was the day the U.S. Supreme Court struck down provisions of a Texas law requiring abortion clinics to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers and requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital in case of medical emergencies. This disastrous ruling will mean the unnecessary deaths of babies and leave mothers exposed to serious health risks. The ruling is bad news for Missouri, … [Read more...]

It was economical for me to come to St. Louis,” Wallenbach, the pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist in Deep Water, said. “For me, I get fed as a pastor’s conference just like at the MBC annual meeting. We need to get back to the business of what … [Read more...]
Missourians react to resolution on Confederate battle flag
ST. LOUIS – Reactions were pretty much in agreement among Missourians interviewed at the SBC Annual Meeting following the adoption of a resolution on the Confederate Battle Flag, June 14. The Pathway spoke to some of those Missourians for a take on their perspective on the issue, which garnered the most debate of all the resolutions passed by the convention. The resolution asked Baptists not to fly the Confederate Battle Flag as a sign of respect to African-American brothers and … [Read more...]

Missouri Baptist Children’s Home marks 130 years
Article by Derald Harris BRIDGETON – Missouri Baptist Children’s Home began as a dream in the heart of one dedicated Christian lady in 1882; a Protestant orphanage was needed to provide care for infants. Mrs. Joseph B. Thompson shared that dream with other Baptist ladies and it soon spread to five Baptist Churches in St. Louis. The faithfulness, hard work and prayerfulness of those ladies led to the dream being realized just four years later. On April 1, 1886, the Missouri Baptist Orphan’s … [Read more...]

Born This Way? MBTS prof critiques the science of homosexuality
KANSAS CITY – Discussions of homosexuality in the public square often hit a brick wall when those in the pro-camp dismiss Christians who point to the Bible’s teachings, and those Christians in turn dismiss the scientific “proof” that homosexuals and transgendered people are simply “born this way.” Sexuality and identity is as innate and predetermined as skin color, so the thinking goes. Midwestern Theological Seminary ethicist Alan Branch attempts to knock down that wall with his new book, … [Read more...]
