Missouri Baptist University’s Title IX exemption at risk
ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University’s application for exemption from Title IX has been questioned by the U.S. Department of Education because of the actions it took in 2001 to separate from the Missouri Baptist Convention. Religious schools and colleges may request an exemption from Title IX if they hold sincere religious convictions about sex or gender and if the school is owned and controlled by a church or religious denomination. MBC wins Appeals Court ruling in Foundation case
The Missouri Court of Appeals – Western District ruled May 24 that the Missouri Baptist Foundation must return governance to board members elected by the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC). The decision, announced by Chief Judge Alok Ahuja, restores governance of the Foundation to the MBC after more than a decade of control by a self-perpetuating board. Mo. Baptists respond to Texas floods
HOUSTON, Texas – While spring has thus far been rather mild in Missouri, Texas has been hit hard by floods and Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief units have answered the call for help. Ten Missouri volunteers are assisting Disaster Relief (DR) units from the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC) in a feeding unit, and will remain there for ten days, prepping an average of 6,000 meals a day. The site received an Award of Merit, and is only site representing an state convention newspaper to be recognized.
