MBCH gearing up for summer camp

BRIDGETON – Trustees appealed for help to send children to camp and received a clean audit report at their April 23 board meeting of the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) at their main campus here. The agency, which works with on average 600 children and 250 families any given day, is also planning its sixth annual camp for students in its care July 8-12 at Camp Palestine in Chilhowee, south of Warrensburg. SBU’s Center for Global Connections provides unique opportunities for students

BOLIVAR — Through the Southwest Baptist University (SBU) Center for Global Connections, students are ministering to multiple people groups around the world, but they can’t do it without financial support from a multitude of donors. With about 350 students having participated on 28 teams in 2012, students raised more than $550,000 to fund those trips. The Baptist Student Union (BSU) campus missionary at Truman State University values talk with lost students more than anything else. HLGU’s 2013-14 budget rises

HANNIBAL – Hannibal-LaGrange University (HLGU) trustees voted to change their meeting structure, adopted a revised HLGU mission statement and approved a $21.9 million budget during their meeting March 18-19. The budget for the upcoming fiscal year assumes the same number of residential students as last year (479), but reflects going non-residential student populations and a 4.75 percent tuition increase trustees approved last November. JEFFERSON CITY - The Executive Board of the Missouri Baptist Convention has voted to appeal a Camden County judge’s decision April 3 granting summary judgment in favor of Windermere Baptist Conference and other defendants. The Executive Board will appeal to the Southern District Court of Appeals in Springfield. SBU looks to future with 7-point strategic plan

BOLIVAR — Southwest Baptist University (SBU) trustees Feb. 19 approved a five-year, seven-part strategic plan with initiatives and goals for the university. The SBU Executive Cabinet, which consists of seven members plus President C. HLGU nursing grads net 100 percent pass rate

Hannibal – Hannibal-LaGrange University’s 35 nursing graduates for 2012 garnered a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The NCLEX-RN is an exam distributed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing used to ensure and regulate that only competent and licensed nurses are practicing in the healthcare arena. Midwestern tops previous spring semester enrollment

KANSAS CITY – Beginning a new semester of training students to better serve the local church, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS) administrators received encouraging news Feb. 11 that more students have enrolled in classes this spring semester than any other in the school’s 56-year history. Cultivating wisdom in a post-Christian culture

As American Christians in the 21st century, we have already fought many battles over political and cultural issues in the first quarter of this century. These battles have borne real fruit for the cause of Christ and the common good—whether the overturning of Roe v. Wade or the ongoing protection of religious liberty. Contrary to the doom some people have predicted, our nation has seen significant progress. That said, Christians must still engage the public square with confidence and discernment in Christ.
