FERGUSON – Changing the streets of unrest in Ferguson to streets of love and ministry is the ultimate goal of Adopt a Block, a plan sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. A recent workshop for training was held at First Baptist Church here. “It is a good, simple plan,” Stoney Shaw, pastor of FBC Ferguson, said. “We are concerned about the people around our church. We want to join with other churches and minister. Walking the streets and praying is a simple yet powerful … [Read more...]
Former missionaries fish for men in Joplin
JOPLIN – Wendy’s is one of Charles Brock’s favorite fishing holes. As he and his wife, Dottie, entered the fast food restaurant, they prayed and glanced around the room. Who needed to receive the Good News today? He took out a bright red Bible study guide that has “Good News For You” in large letters on the cover. A family of six gladly received several copies. Then Brock noticed a group of young men, one wearing a jacket with “Kazakhstan” written on the back. “I assumed they were … [Read more...]
MBC church trains pastor’s in El Salvador
With the goal of gospel multiplication, six Missouri Baptists traveled to El Salvador, Feb. 9-15, in an effort to equip local pastors to lead Great Commission churches. According to John Vernon, DOM of the Cape Girardeau Association, this project continues a partnership established during the MBC’s three-year focus on El Salvador. After landing in El Salvador, the team of six met briefly in the airport before splitting up into three sets of teaching pairs. The groups then separated and … [Read more...]
Jackson apartment complexes reached as church mobilizes
JACKSON – Building on relationships made during fall block parties, over 100 members of the First Baptist Church here came together, Dec. 21, to load food boxes and share the gospel with people in their community. Hosting community events and delivering holiday meals are only the first steps in First Baptist Jackson’s innovative local missions strategy, according to Pastor of Students and Missions John Chidester. When Chidester arrived at FBC Jackson in June 2014, he brought with him … [Read more...]
Senegal touched by Bible stories
DAKAR, Senegal – Bible stories have stirred hearts in a Senegalese village, where Missouri Baptists continue to minister even though the Missouri Baptist Convention’s three-year partnership in the region has come to a close. A mission team made up of Baptists from churches in South Central Missouri traveled to Senegal recently to follow up on audio New Testaments that Missouri Baptists had distributed to the villagers in June. The team included Bradley Jemes, pastor of Orla Baptist … [Read more...]
Cards Matheny includes testimony in new book
ST. LOUIS – Spring training is here and both Cardinals fans and Royals fans are eager to see warmer weather and Opening Day arrive. But until April (and hopefully two more post-season runs), consider tiding yourself over with this easy-to-digest but still interesting book by Cardinals skipper, Mike Matheny: The Matheny Manifesto. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it comes from a 2007 letter Matheny wrote to the parents of the little league team he managed. It went viral, with his … [Read more...]

Time to push ‘Pause’
What will it take for American Christians to stop doing what we are doing and stand up for God’s righteousness in such a fashion that the enemy quivers in fear? I fear it will take more than the media images showing the barbaric practices of zealots who have no qualms about killing men, women and children for being followers of the Lord Jesus. One of the reasons we won’t stop is because the demanding nature of the pace of life. We are so busy it inhibits our capacity to make good value … [Read more...]

AURORA – More than 1,800 students and adults packed Aurora High School’s Houn’ Dawg Gymnasium Feb. 4, and this time it wasn’t because of a Big 8 Conference varsity match-up. “Brad Bennett and his Real Encounter team do a great job with the whole program and about halfway through, when Brad gives his testimony and an invitation, we saw 128 decisions and 102 professions of faith,” said Wade Rogers, senior pastor at First Baptist Church Aurora and church coordinator for the event. Dorcas-like faith at FBC Browning
They may not be part of the biggest congregation in the Missouri Baptist Convention, but the WMU ladies of rural First Baptist Church, Browning, are making the love of Christ felt in a big way in a faraway land. The ladies, part of the approximately 40 worshippers who attend the church in Linn County in north-central Missouri, have made more than 600 “pillow case” dresses for orphans in Haiti. They work in partnership with Red Bridge Baptist Church in Kansas City, which distributes the … [Read more...]
