Lottie Moon hits record $154 million

(BP) – Southern Baptists gave an unprecedented $154 million to the 2013 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, breaking the record for the largest total in the offering’s 125-year history. The 2013 offering, finalized June 5, reached $154,057,852.36. The total represents an increase of nearly $4.8 million over 2012, or 3.2 percent. Sen. Roy Blunt (R., Mo.) on the Senate floor Wednesday urged the U.S. to protect the rights of religious minorities throughout the world. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has traveled to Israel and his first stop was to visit with the family of one of the three Israeli teenagers abducted nearly two weeks ago by Hamas terrorists. Chocolate center of Muslim boycott

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – A Muslim group is calling for a boycott of Cadbury after two types of chocolate produced by the company were found to have traces of pork DNA. May 7 marked Saeed Abedini’s second consecutive birthday in an Iranian prison. The American pastor has been imprisoned since 2012 for allegedly working for an underground Christian church movement while assisting with an orphanage project. Cultivating wisdom in a post-Christian culture

As American Christians in the 21st century, we have already fought many battles over political and cultural issues in the first quarter of this century. These battles have borne real fruit for the cause of Christ and the common good—whether the overturning of Roe v. Wade or the ongoing protection of religious liberty. Contrary to the doom some people have predicted, our nation has seen significant progress. That said, Christians must still engage the public square with confidence and discernment in Christ.
