By Alex Smith and Sue Sprenkle/IMB SÃO PAULO, Brazil (IMB) – Chyler Hughes had never seen a Black missionary. At church, she learned to minister in her local community, but no one ever talked about international missions. The concept entered her world when she left Kentucky and enrolled at Lincoln University, a historically Black university in Jefferson City, Missouri. She learned about international missions by attending Rooted, a collegiate ministry, and Soma Community Church. They … [Read more...]
First Baptist Church, Arnold, seeks to present Jesus in Liberia, at home
LIBERIA, Africa – “The last words Jesus said before He ascended into Heaven were a directive to be witnesses to our neighbors and the nations, to the ends of the earth,” says Ellen Lauer, Global Missions Director at First Baptist Arnold. “A church that isn’t striving to provide or support opportunities to accomplish this directive, simply isn’t being obedient.” Toward that end First Arnold sent a 12-person team composed largely of Missouri Baptist University (MoBap) nursing students in … [Read more...]

ACUÑA, Mexico – Three families from different Mexican churches received newly built houses during the last week of May. Fifty-eight people from 11 churches and five denominations worked together to frame the houses, set a metal roof, set windows and a door. “What they call houses, we might call sheds,” Michael Hunt, associate pastor at First Baptist Church, Moberly, said. “They are 18x21 feet. They are like a lean-to with a metal roof. There is a living area and two bedrooms. They have … [Read more...]
FBC De Soto sets up eyeglass clinic, shares gospel in Dominican Republic
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The acts of kindness Jesus performed as He shared the gospel inspired Gene Smith, administrative pastor at First Baptist Church, De Soto, and his wife, Kristi, to lead international mission trips to the Dominican Republic. “Meeting needs goes hand in hand with sharing the gospel,” Smith said. “My wife speaks Spanish, so we wanted to go to a Spanish speaking country.” “We started looking at different opportunities,” he said, “and we looked at Vision 3:16. My wife … [Read more...]

Doreen was a special education teacher for seven and a half years before serving with her husband, Jon, in … [Read more...]
Care for IMB missionaries remains priority, IMB and partnering organizations help missionaries stay on field
By Kristen Sosebee/IMB RICHMOND, Va. (IMB) – Lorie Delk started a business in response to one of the most unusual experiences of her life. The certified speech language pathologist said she knew God was telling her to work with missionary children around the world. She was caught off guard by such a specific call—especially since she did not personally know any missionary children. “Missionaries were those people we met once a year when they came to missions Sunday at church,” Lorie … [Read more...]

The city is abuzz with shops and merchants in full prep mode for an influx of 15 million visitors — athletes, spectators, media professionals and volunteers — strolling along the Seine, clamoring for sights of Paris’ legendary art and architecture, and sampling local fare (pain au chocolat, anyone?). As an explorer, Faulkner and his ministry partner, Rhett Clarke, seek … [Read more...]
Korean American nurse returns to Korea, supports missionary presence
SOUTH KOREA (IMB) – The first time God caught Peace Joo’s attention, she was in high school at a summer youth retreat in Texas. While rafting down a river, her raft overturned. The current was too strong. She felt herself being pulled under. But her youth pastor’s hand reached out and pulled her to safety. Once back on dry land, she realized that in that moment she wasn’t just drowning in the rapids. She was also drowning in her sin. And she didn’t want to be. “I felt it was God who … [Read more...]

Doors are open for GMPs in the Middle East – and we help mobilize them
by Audrey Chism/International Mission Board MIDDLE EAST – For years, my husband, Matt, worked for the International Mission Board as a photographer. While on a trip covering the plight of Middle Eastern refugees, the trajectory of his career with the IMB changed. With each click of his camera, he was so moved with compassion that he began to feel God calling him to minister to them full time. I felt the call too, and we’ve spent our lives, or at least 19 years of them, working with … [Read more...]
